Watching the video of Sarah Palins appearance with William Shatner on the Conan OBrien Show, the one word that came to mind was style. Yet, there was more to it than that.
After all, she entered the arena of late night television, a stage that has excoriated her routinely - the enemy camp as Chris Matthews might say. She has been scoffed at before by OBrien. The show has featured William Shatner mocking Palins tweets by reading them as dramatic recitations.
Still, Palin ...

No specifics, but BOY!, do you have the goods on Palin, huh?
ROFLMFWAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why, with that information you could become the media's favorite darling, the most famous person on earth, and make millions selling the lurid story to the highest bidder.
But.... nah..., just keep it to yourself and taunt people on FreeRepublic with it, that's a much better idea.
You are truly pathetic. Get help.
;-/.
That is for damn sure.
Strange person.
I tend to share your feelings. If I, remember right it is called overexposure fatigue. Just like the radio stations, when playing a cool song over and over again until one really starts hating it, although in the beginning you liked the song very much.
It would be a wise idea of her handlers to tone down the exposure to a minimum and at the same time keeping her in the lime light.
You are right, some of the folks on this forum have developed a quasi "Palin Worship" tendency (I do not blame them one iota)and this Lady has all the attributes for such an honor.(looks, wit, humor,BRAINS and a solid Conservative Platform)
At the same time we need to make her a very strong Presidential candidate, not worshiping her...
BTW, I like the Lady a lot, as I stated way back, hoped that she could become our very own "Lady Thatcher".
“Just finished her book.
I am part in awe and part ENRAGED.
The vile and shameless treatment she and family are subjected to is beyond the pale.”
I felt the same way! And as if things couldn’t get worse, I was reading it at my local Barnes & Noble and the hippie clerks openly ADMITTED to me that they keep her book away from prominent display. “Haha, you can tell?” they responded...
“This is the fourth time in the last 10 days I’ve seen someone try to cut her down to a circus vaudeville act.”
I TOTALLY agree with you hennie pennie. Palin may have a fun family and pizzaz—but I notice even Palin’s fans underestimate her credibility as a thoughtful and accomplished Executive Leader and as someone who deserves to be a *Commander in Chief* and leader of the free world.
Governor Palin IS *Presidential* indeed.
When this site is ready for some straight talk about Palin, I hope there will be a few patriotic denizens left who are willing to fall on their sword in the pursuit of truth.
Well, after checking your posting history, I've learned that you are a fairly prolific writer; especially, it seems lately, WRT Sarah Palin.
You are no stranger to posting articles, so why don't you give it a try in this case?
Why don't you write an article about Sarah Palin, with all the facts you keep alluding to about the lady and her political history?
But don't forget to cite all the sources of the dirt you dish about her.
Everybody around here is growing tired of your allusions to Palin improprieties. Post a thread. State your claims. Cite your sources.
Or sit down and hush.
“It would be a wise idea of her handlers to tone down the exposure to a minimum and at the same time keeping her in the lime light.”
I would agree with that too danmar. Luckily, I believe she is free from any “handlers” and with the help of God’s guidance and her God-given instinct, is smart enough to craft her own strategy. But yeah overexposure would mean she’ll just become a celebrity figure and not taken seriously as a political contender. I would hope she takes a break from the limelight and continue to contribute her thoughts on pressing policy matters and issues via facebook and an occasional appearance on shows like “Fox News Sunday.” —then make more public appearances stumping for real conservatives when 2010 election season heats up.
SO MUCH changes in 3 years as we all know...It’ll be fascinating to see how things play out! Though to be honest, if she wasn’t in the running—I don’t think I would pay very much attention...
“...I notice even Palins fans underestimate her credibility as a thoughtful and accomplished Executive Leader and as someone who deserves to be a *Commander in Chief* and leader of the free world.”
Oops I meant, THE* Commander in Chief .
If you equate sophistication with arrogance then you would be correct. It is not though.
Thank you for your kind post; I am glad to see that there are some freepers who understand that the Palin groupies are trivializing her and her accomplishments.... in fact, a large group of charging raging RINOs couldn't accomplish a better job of making her appear to be MORE unstatemenslike, just some silly celebrity politico, some type of Paris Hilton Political Star who knows how to shoot a moose - a pretty faced Caribou Barbie doll with bright smile and shiny shoes.
I hope that Governor Palin has some close associates around her whom she can trust, as it is obvious that there are lots of people who'd love to sabotage her political future, whether this is done knowingly or unknowingly, who knows???
Perhaps there already is a concerted effort, an orchestrated online campaign to smear her as bumpkin hot gal from the cold arctic, a hot frontierswoman who knows hot to shoot her guns and dresses fashionably, to boot.
Again thank you for posting to me.
p.s. Are you perchancestarting to worry that BHO may be reelected? I never thought he had a chance at a second term, but perhaps I was grossly mistaken.
hennie pennie, I have a lot to say because I’ve been paying close attention to the media lately and analyzing how stories are covered and presented to the public—not just how they present Palin. Though their coverage of Palin is one of the most interesting phenomenons no doubt.
First off, I do wonder sometimes if even the “friendly” fluffy anchors have a vested interest in keeping the public impression of Palin as a sweet “hockey mom” and nothing more. A facebook blogger with a cult following. “Some of the nicer anchors may diminish the idea that Palin is some demonic witch...but you hardly hear talk about her accomplishments as Governor for example, or her record. If people did then there would be no need to keep pounding the unecessary and irritating question “Is she *qualified* to be President in 2012?” As if it’s even up for debate?
Actually, I found it amusing the other day when an MSNBC anchor pointed out that Palin’s current global warming views somehow “contradict” her record in Alaska. I was shocked they even brought up the fact she had a record—let alone on an issue so relevant LoL...but then by the end of the interview the “pundits” were suggesting that she has a team of people writing the Op-Eds in her name. *rolleyes*
Some of the people I’ve been most frustrated with are the anchors at Fox News Channel...In fact it was (if you read her book) Carl Cameron who broke the supposed story that Palin “thought Africa was a country” and “didn’t know what NAFTA was.” And I could not believe the willingness of the American public to buy into this alternative universe of lies. Even Palin’s initial “conservative” supporters have started to believe the caricature the media created to suit their sick appetites.
To this day, I don’t feel any Fox News anchor has adequately defended her or treated her with respect fitting for a qualified Governor. They keep insisting she’s just a relatable, leader of a populist movement. (Except Greta Van Susteren. I like her.) Even Hannity seems to defend her more as a “conservative woman” rather than as an executive leader, the same way he treats Carrie Prejean for example. (and that’s what haters WANT to think, they want to think Palin is no different from Prejean) — I think all of this unfair coverage exsts because Palin inspires feeling of inadequacy among egotists, conservative men in particular.
I pray that all the doubters don’t get to Palin either. and maybe I’m being overanalytical—sometimes I feel she’s been lackng the ‘Governor’ mode she had when she was first announced, that poise—and adapted to the confines of how McCain campaign wanted to frame her as some folksy icon with populist appeal, as “everywoman.” And while I understand selling books is different from running for office, I hope she realizes her potential to appeal to people outside “the base” and outside the places she visited in her tour.
In fact, it was a liberal who told me he thinks Palin would give off a more impressive impression to world leaders than Obama has. THat she has the right combination of resolve and charm to accomplish successful diplomacy.
Yes I do believe Obama will win a 2nd term unfortunately—Palin would motivate liberals to end. It would be the shame of the century in their mind if Palin were to win. If Obama was not at stake, then there would be less Palin hate all around too. Part of the Palin hate stems from defensiveness of Obama. But...I personally can’t see myself getting excited for any other candidate EXCEPT Palin. I think she could run amazing campaign, but I don’t know how much faith I have in the American public to do the right thing. We’ll see what happens.
Surely she isn't part of the Palin Punchin' Bag crew?
I remember when Carl Cameron did that -- however, FOX frequently does similar "out of character" things, so I really do NOT trust them.
Seriously... there is something downright odd about FOX, and I'm sure that future historians will hone in on facts which are currently hidden from our view.
Are you aware that Greta's husband is a BIG time LONG time contributor to Democrats?
I can't remember his name, but let me know if you have trouble tracking it down. I think I read somewhere on FR during the 2008 campaign that Greta & her hubbie were STAUNCH Hillary Supporters.
But perhaps I am mistaken.
Megyn Kelly is back —at least on The O Factor. I don’t think she’s talked about Palin recently but from what I remember in the past, her defense of Palin is frustrating too. She plays the “sexism/double standards” card rather than adequately defend Palin as a Governor with a substantial record.
I’ve been happy with the way Ann Coulter has defended Palin.
Seriously, sometimes I wonder if they are INTENTIONALLY using 'negative psychology' in the hope that her popularity peaks next month and everthereafter she's simply considered to be a retired beauty queen, busily cleaning her guns & sharpening her knives to kill more of Santa Claus's poor little reindeer and to make littly tiny bikinis out of Santa's reindeers' precious skin.
Thanks, I haven’t watched TV in a long time, and in the past, Kelly frequently had cogent rational arguments; I’ll have to watch Ann next time I hear she’s going to be on TV.
Say, have you ever watched her in the Alaka Governor debates??? What presense!!
I saw them when C-SPAN broadcast them, shortly after she was selected to be VP.
IF you haven't seen her in those debates from years ago, BEFORE McCain attempted to utterly ruin her & her political future, you MUST watch them.
Surely the governor's race debates from ALaska must be archived at C-SPAN, or some place online?
YOU would love to watch her in those debates, she was NO-nonsense, utterly mature & calm while other candidates were almost sputtering, and she NEVER once let any those silly interrogating reporters abuse/use her for their own ends.
Those debates would fascinate you -- maybe someone knows if they are available to watch online, and if so, can provide a URL.
Hillary Democrats from the midwest are of a different breed from the elitist, Obama worshippers of New England. The media knew this and that’s why they wanted to paint Palin as a dimwit, extremist idealogue as fast as possible in order to prevent a Hillary voter migration to her side. (I have a feeling Greta voted for McCain though. I think she’s moderated her views in years past.)
Honestly, I think Palin’s greatest asset is her God-given instinct for doing the unexpected and unpredictable—and making it work. She follows the beat of her own drum with God’s guidance and it drives the media crazy because they don’t know how to cover her or what she’ll do next. There’s no way of analyzing her the same way one could analyze a Romney for example, who is just following the typical “10 step guide on how to run for President” rule book.
Yes the media longs for Palin to just be a name in the tabloids right alongside Levi Johnston’s Playgirl spread. They want her movement to be a “phase” and so small and insignificant that she could never be taken seriously as a contender, just a mobilizer of “the base of uneducated, misguided, white common folk who thump their Bibles” (and that’s what else is intriguing too, not just coverage of Palin, but how they portray Palin’s supporters *major barf alert* on that end)...BUT it doesn’t help them when Palin’s Op-Eds on the major issues of the day get published on the Washington Post and when Barack OBama is not walking on water as they expected and said he would.
