Watching the video of Sarah Palins appearance with William Shatner on the Conan OBrien Show, the one word that came to mind was style. Yet, there was more to it than that.
After all, she entered the arena of late night television, a stage that has excoriated her routinely - the enemy camp as Chris Matthews might say. She has been scoffed at before by OBrien. The show has featured William Shatner mocking Palins tweets by reading them as dramatic recitations.
Still, Palin ...

Just finished her book.
I am part in awe and part ENRAGED.
The vile and shameless treatment she and family are subjected to is beyond the pale.
He's a natural actor....Must have been hell for his parents.
I prefer Sarah America.
Annie Oakley was a sideshow; Sarah Palin is presidential material.
You forgot Joan of Arc, Mother Mary, Cleopatra and Amelia Earhart.
Annie Oakley was a skilled and talented woman whose abilities exceeded that of any contemporary male. She succeeded in a male dominated field.
Have you read the piece? Or are you just making a drive-by comment?
Annie Oakley succeeded at a field that was 100% male.
She was more skilled and talented than any male contemporary.
Catherine the Great
(She has a certain manner, an allure, a je ne sais pas)
Terrible sentence in an otherwise good article. People who don’t know French should not use it in their writing. The author meant to say “a je ne sais quoi”, not “a je ne sais pas” (huge difference, making a compliment turn into an insult). The right meaning is “she’s got a “I don’t know what”, i.e. she’s got a certain quality, and I can’t put my finger on it. “Je ne sais pas”, literally means, “I don’t know”. Since the author is talking about Palin, detractors would laugh themselves silly, saying it’s a freudian slip, because the author seems to be saying that Palin doesn’t know anything.
Oh well, say lah vee.
NBC is running ads for the Tonight Show bragging about how they had Sarah Palin on last week. If she was as unpopular and polarizing as the papers want us to believe I can’t imagine why they would do that.
Thanks for the proof read. I’m so used to saying “ Je ne parle pas francais” when I’m in Quebec, I forgot it’s quoi not pas.
Governor Sarah Palin is PRESIDENTIAL.
This is the fourth time in the last 10 days I've seen someone try to cut her down to a circus vaudeville act.
I ain't buying. Peddle your meme elsewhere, NOT to me.

By your own definition of archetype - she is a perfect example.
You really need to do some thinking before you speak.
You also need to read an article before you comment about it.
lol. You nailed it with the Shatner description.
k sarah sarah
My apologies in advance!
I'm sick of seeing that WILD FRONTIER Annie Oakley crud being thrown all over Governor Sarah Palin, and now I've seen it FOUR TIMES in approximately ten days, and as far as I'm concerned it's an attack from RINOs who despise her and want to sideline her to the provincial girl-bumpkin of the wild west who wantsta shoot guns, bang bang sharpshooter.
DON'T YOU TELL ME WHAT TO READ, BUDDY.
I consider this SARAH as equivalent to Annie Oakley to be something right out of MITT ROMNEY's office at RINO CENTRAL.
