The tea party movement’s goal should be to seize the reins of the GOP and populate the leadership of the party with rock-ribbed conservatives.

That's what they've been doing. The Tea Party is what the Conservative Party is to New York Republicans.

Third parties have never really been successfull in American politics for a reason. Structurally we are not geared for it as we are not a parliamentry democracy.

Suppose in 2012, the following happens: The Republican nominee wins 33% of the vote. BHO wins 34% of the vote. The third party candidate (conservative leaning) wins 33% of the vote. Guess who wins the election? BHO of course in our winner take all system (obviously provided with sufficient votes in the Electoral College). In a parliamentry system like Germany or Israel, the Republican Party would work together with the conservative leaning third party and put together a governing coalition government. Since we do not have a parliamentry system and it is winner-take-all here in the US, third parties can ONLY act as spoilers much as Ross Perot did. That’s how our politics is set up, that is how our elections work.

"The only perfection, the only utopia you will ever find is your reward after you depart this earth. For now, please, let us dwell in the real world and put pipe dreams aside."

No problem...tell the Republicans to step aside and join the Conservatives. Republicans have never reversed any of this long march to socialism in decades. That is why Conservatives are leading in the polls. Someone needs to get the message here and it's not Conservatives.

That was not my purpose. My purpose is to put up a united front. Do you think BHO’s army of left-wing activists fought the Democrat Party? Of course not. They worked WITHIN the Party. That’s how they won the election. They were united, not divided. Suggest we follow suit if we are to have any chance of defeating them.

you saved many of us the trouble of having to respond by saying it all for us.

There are very few organizing conservatives for involvement in elections, so Palin’s impact will be real.

Only reason Soros is sitting is if he stood up Obama would have to bow to him.

Well the GOP better get with the program and move to the right or they will be history and we will be stuck with zero for a second term and can definitely kiss the good ole USA good bye.

Note back to George Soros from a conservative activist:

Congratulations on how handsomely your generous donations to John McCain and other “Republican” “leaders” have paid off.

But, some of us will never sell our souls.

Let me guess. You’re thinking I didn’t know that, right?

So, let me put you another case. BHO gets 44 % of the vote, 3rd party gets 45% of the vote, and the Repub gets 11%. The 3rd party wins by a plurality. In our winner take all system. Which isn’t parliamentary.

Oh, right. That’s sort of like what almost happened in NY-23 last month, isn’t it? A good thing too, unless you happen to think protecting 2 party representation with someone like Dede Scozzafava is either Republican or Conservative.

And saying that we’re not structurally geared for it is asinine. You don’t think that there are all kinds of ad hoc coalitions of liberal democrats, and liberal repubs now? How is that different than having 170 Democrats, 160 Republicans, and 105 3rd party (or whatever mix you might have) all trying to coalesce?

There is no difference. The only difference is that Tammany Hall has moved into the White House and the Capital.

I would like to point out the following fact: The OVERWHELMING majority of Republican congressmen and senators voted against Obamacare, the Porkulous, and Cap and Tax. Why should we destroy the GOP over a small tiny number of RINOs like Snowe and Collins? Why should we let them ruin the GOP? There are ALWAYS a few bad apples in any organization.

As a Catholic I know this. When the pedophile priest scandal rocked the Church a few years back did I abandon my Church? Of course not! To the contrary! I got MORE active in it. I wanted to take it back and clean it up. I became a Eucharistic Minister. I joined the Knights of Columbus and I am now a 4th degree knight. I was determined not to let a few bad apples destrot my Church. I feel the same way about my Party. I will NEVER give up! It isn’t in me.

Republicans helped to elect an another anti-sovereignty, elitist crony extremist to office, I'm betting all the while looking at their and the Dems back room investment in GE. Can't wait for Glenn Beck to expose that one right before the elections.

I'm thinking there won't be a single person of either of the old big two parties left when the American people are through with them. Especially if this healthcare takeover goes through.

Why the snide remark about Sarah Palin? Lumping her in with
minor party candidates ....

NY 23 was a weird set of circumstance. Dede was a Republican in drag. She was picked in a backroom deal, not by the voters in a primary.

There is little doubt in my mind that Doug Hoffman will run as a Republican next year and take that seat back.

You haven’t given up on the party. The party gave up on you. Do you recognize the spendthrifts of the Dick Armey and Tom Delay as representative of the party of Ronald Reagan and smaller government?

Why...just one simple question...answer why none of this decades long march toward a totalitarian big government has ever been reversed and do you expect anything to change doing the same things over again?

Reagan turned the tide and at least slowed the growth of government. The GOP controlled Congress during the Clinton Administration put a stop to Hillarycare and balanced the budget and produced a surplus.

True, but Doug Hoffman would take that seat back if he was running on the Bullwinkle party ticket, given the screwing that the district got from their newly elected Dem.

Whether he runs as a Repub doesn’t matter. Whether he runs as a conservative does. And it won’t matter what label he wears around his neck.

Even Dr. Ron Paul, the de-fact leader of the libertarian movement in this country, recognizes the complete and total futility of third parties which is why he ramains a Republican. I agree with him on that. His son, Rand, is running for the US Senate in KY as a REPUBLICAN as well. Not wasting his time in a Don Quixote like third party. Smart move.
