I wonder. Is that anything like the evolutionists who call the creationists idiots?
The words *cretard* and *IDiot* come to mind.
It wouldn't be like that kind of name calling, now would it?
Oh, THANK YOU JOHN!!!
“We hear repeatedly on FR that Catholics are not really Christian and that they do not represent the conservative values of the FR community.”
Not from me. I don’t know what this thing is you have about Catholics. There is nothing in my writing that confronts Catholics, only what I believe and what I believe about our country and its founders.
You have a problem... this is part of the chaos thing I was talking about. You are the incarnation of ACORN for the Evo community... you’re trying to drive a wedge and it’s your entire purpose.
You willfully and purposely take every comment out of context then try to interject some Catholic bias into nearly every post. I can’t imagine you would be that dense so I have to assume you are determined to cause division.
If no one else is gonna call it, I’ll call it; you’re a troll.
It is my personal opinion this site would be a better place if you’d take your biases and go back to DU where you can preach your division with a grand reception. You might seem moderately intelligent among that crowd but here you’re just a squeaky wheel.
Of course I realize he’s Jewish.
That’s what enabled him to deal with the Hebrew in Genesis so well.
How is his rejection of Jesus as the Messiah relevant to his ability to interpret Genesis?
Tell me....
Is this science friendly Catholic Church the same Catholic Church that was involved in that Galileo thing?
Just wondering......
“Isn’t this rather hypocritical?”
Again, no.
I don’t think I’ve encountered you on any of the evolution posts before and, from what I’ve seen all of your questioning has been sincere and not motivated by anything but a real want to know. I completely respect that. Any generality that is implied is meant for a specific crowd of troublemakers (ironic, ain’t it?) on these threads and not for folks open to reasonable and honest debate and civil disagreement.
I have yet to see you twist words out of context or label those who disagree with you... if I’ve missed that then I’ll catch on sooner or later. In the meantime, it’s a pleasure to correspond with you. Your questions are perfectly fair and deserve a fair answer.
GG
Thank you for making my point. One doesn't have to scratch very deeply for the anti-Catholic bigotry to begin to hemorrhage.
It’s bigotry to recognize history?
What? Do you pretend that it doesn’t exist?
“Is this science friendly Catholic Church the same Catholic Church that was involved in that Galileo thing?”
Ooohhh.... you’re good.
The Catholic church has had its share of scandals and issues no doubt but so did America... we all learn and grow (with the occasional annoying exception). Honestly, if the Church head supports evolution then they are mistaken. However, the assumption that, as he continually puts it that ‘Billions’ of Catholics believe in evolution is entirely unfounded. He’s backed off of that in other threads before but he thinks it plays well enough to re-spin it. I’m not inclined to argue with him anymore. I’ll save it for those interested in truth and not stirring the pot.
Are you asking us to take him as an authority only when he agrees with you? If Jesus came in fulfillment of the Scriptures, which I am sure that we both agree to be true, those same Scriptures were written in the same Hebrew you claim he has special insight into. Can't you see your circular logic?
There’s no more evidence of the divinity of Christ in the archeological record than there is for the Greek gods in the archeological investigations into Homer’s Troy.
Try again.
Evolution doesn’t concern itslef with how life came to be... but you already knew that.
I have backed off of nothing. To be Catholic, as so many Freepers point out with regard to the abortion issue, one needs to be in Communion with the Church. Those who reject Church doctrine and teachings, regardless of the box they check on a census form, are not Catholic. Now stop trying to tell Catholics what we believe.
No, I take him as an authority because he speaks Hebrew and has a PhD.
Did you ever READ what he wrote? He does a great job of reconciling what Scripture says with what current scientific observations show without twisting either Scripture or science, snide remarks of the evos on that thread notwithstanding.
What problems do you have with his reasoning and conclusions?
The difference is that my position can be influenced by reason where yours, as you admit, cannot.
Nope... I never admitted any such thing.
Your answer: “No, I couldnt.”
Yeah, I know that's what some evolutionists say, particularly on FR.
And I can understand why. It's just too complicating and embarrassing for them to deal with. Better to pretend that the first cells just pooped into existence than deal with the messy complications of what THEY evolved from.
And that is another reason that so many people realize that science does NOT have all the answers, much as they like to pretend they do.
“Now stop trying to tell Catholics what we believe.”
Refer to the title of my post... then note, once more that any Catholic reference in my posts was shoved in there by one Natural Law (is that your real name?). You have a problem and you need to see someone about it.
Try your priest for starters, then you might want to talk to God about it. He’s always there to listen.
I am not.
“In answer to my question: So.... could you be reasoned out of your belief in God?
Your answer: No, I couldnt.”
I sit corrected... now, if there is reason I’m willing to listen to it. Do you believe you can reason away God?
Begin.... now.
Do you want to include in the discussion the suppression of the Irish by Protestants, the Protestant Inquisition (yes, there was one), the witch trials conducted by Protestants, oppression of Catholics throughout the Nordic countries from the reformation through the 19th century, or more recently the actions of the German Christian (official Nazi Protestant) Church against the catholics who perished in the holocaust?
Not what I said.
“The Bible which archaeological discoveries have continued to find to be accurate in its historical record along with the historical certainty of the life of the person Jesus (of Nazareth/Christ),,,,just for a start.”
...is what I said.
The archaeological record has over and over been discovered to VALIDATE the historical record given in the Bible. Place names, country names, people names, times given - all are supported - not contradicted - by the archaeological record that has been uncovered.
Jesus (of Nazareth/Christ) - the main subject of the entire New Testament (and of course foretold in the Old Tesatment) - was a human being who lived and died - just as the Bible reports he did as attested to by non-Biblical sources such as Josephus, the jewish Historian.
If the Bible has been proved accurate in its historical record, including its record of the person of Jesus whose life is documented by non-Biblical sources then, REASON would indicate that the REST of the Bible’s assertions and claims are also, in fact, true.
