I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internets leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the Rathergate scandal, I thus became one of the Pajamahadeen that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.
Being a Freeper has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesnt matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.
Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals dont force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next years congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:
Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, Im more concerned about Harry Reids Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?
Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess Im going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. Bye, see you guys next year.

So ... you pop up, tell us off, and then disappear for a year? How about next time you just disappear for a year and leave the active participants to actively participate as they see fit?
Yeah, that's why all the Romney posters on this thread were banned as soon as they said anything supportive of Romney.
Oops, they weren't.
Try again, spin-boy.
I’m no JimBot, but I don’t understand your point. There is almost no discussion about Jim here — we discuss politics, current events, and what-not, but for the most part the board is pretty much NOT about the site owner.
However, while I disagree with Jim about some things, I strongly support his right to run the site however he wants. So am I a JimBot? I’m certainly one of the past Mitt supporters that is vilified, but I’ve never been banned even though I have never refrained from expressing my disagreement with whatever I disagreed with.
I’d like to think that’s because, except for specific threads where the point is to engage in personal sniping, I have always tried to express my opinion respectfully, and to present arguments rationally and with facts, while trying to answer opposing viewpoints with understanding and openness.
Well, and you wouldn’t know it if the anti-Romney bunch here had their way.
To call it “socialized medicine” is completely dishonest.
As to abortion, I was litigating an abortion case against the ACLU when Romney was running in Massachusetts, so I was paying attention, and I didn’t like what he said, at all. That’s why I didn’t become a supporter during the primaries until it was clear he was the best one left standing.
I know that, in his ecclesiastical positions, Romney counseled against abortion, and he got slammed by the Democrats for it. I am sure that, like me, he believes abortion is immoral and wrong. I knew that, running in Massachusetts, he would have to take the position that he would do nothing about their abortion laws. It was the practical thing to do because federal law preempts most attempts to tighten restrictions. And, in Massachusetts, with a heavily Democrat legislature, no pro-life legislation, even around the margins, had a chance. You have to pick your battles, and this was one where there was absolutely no chance of making any headway.
But, I thought he went way too far in pledging to keep a “woman’s right to choose” the way it was, and I was very turned off.
I think his current position is probably much more in line with his own views on the matter, and in line with what he has taught his children. Regardless, it is a blot.
But, taking everything into account, he is brilliant, a leader, a firm believer in freedom and America, and, in his personal life, has shown impeccable character. That counts for a lot with me.
—If you’re not a JimBot, you’re OUTTA here! —
So how come you’re still here?
And you answered a question that wasn’t asked. The issue is can a politician have an epiphany and change/modify their position on abortion? At one time Reagan thought it was okay if the health of the mother was at risk. Later he changed that to only the most extreme cases where the life of the mother was in danger.
But the opening he allowed by signing that original legislation resulted in the deaths of millions of babies.
I’m not saying Reagan was pro-choice, he was ADAMANTLY pro life. But pols make mistakes and sometimes they have to live with the political consequences.
And sometimes they don’t.
Ahh..the old.. “who ya gonna beleive? Me or your lyin’ ears”
No thanks. I had to listen to eight years of that nonsense with Billy Jeff and his old lady....daily leakin’ on all of us..tellin’ us its rainin’......
Thanks. The truth about Romney bothers some folks. Too bad.
nmh, is the same poster that waged a posting petty tirade about Palin's kids names....but never said a peep about a man named "Mitt". LOL!!
One might think nmh is a paid hack for Mitt...or just a star-crossed fellow mind-numbed mormon.
Take your pick.......
This is a great news site. If you want debate, check out TownHall or Ace of Spades. Not known for news, but the debate is pretty fierce."
With all due respect, you and Heartland are both full of crap. Case in point, just recently I spent a whole nite arguing/debating with freepers, including JR, about Newt NOT being a RINO. I was convinced that he was being attacked by trolls due to his plans for running for President. Pretty much got an overwhelming majority that said nope, Newt's another RINO too but I argued for most of the night. Psst...I'm still here.
Could it possibly be that you two tend to argue like lefties with questionable practices like name-calling and petulant outbursts? That might tend to get you the responses that convince you that debate is not welcome.
What you're inferring is that FR bans people for not being in lock-step with JR and that's just plain wrong. Then again, maybe you two haven't been around long enough to know any better. Yeah....that's probably it.
Charles, maybe he tried.
I’ve seen several vanities complaining of these anti-mitt adds get locked or zotted with an admin mod notice to see this original thread:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2397664/posts
However. If He wants to opus himself on this issue...
lol
....go for it. I’m sure the mods will allow us a good opus
Pretty simple.
Ummmm?
Reagan made a mistake. Romney TWICE made a political calculation that coming out as pro-abort would help him win statewide office in Massachussetts - a position that runs directly opposite of his own Church's viewpoint on abortion.
Once again, the two situations are vastly different, although Mitt tried the moral equivalence game in an interview with Chriss Wallace.
Pissant did not write it....he posted another person’s blog.
“We were against Mitt long before Sarah ever entered the picture”
Rather know who you’re fer rather than who you’re agin.
