Given that here in Colorado, if you have a CCW permit, it is flagged in your DMV records, so officers are aware, in case of a traffic stop......I’m not sure I’d add this little touch.
Ditto Texas. One thought is that when presenting an officer your driver’s license it is a good idea to also hand him/her your CCL, even if you are not currently carrying (let’s not get into the you should always carry flames OK). An officer in Texas will immediately know that you have been subjected to a background check, have no felonies and are a good guy, plus he/she will appreciate your honesty and concern for a safe stop. On the other hand if you are coming home from the range where you have just shown of your entire arsenal to your buddies, maybe it’s best to drive real slow?
The law says you only need to “show” your ID, not “hand it over.” It should never leave yoru hand....if you want to exercise your rights.
Let's be clear. If you are carrying, you must provide CHL ID along with Driver's License or other valid ID; per Paragraph 6.43, of Chapter 3: DPS Rules Relating to the Carrying of a Concealed Handgun in Texas. It appears if you are not carrying, you do not have to provide your CHL license, but I would agree it is a good idea to do so.
Little acts of resistance like this are what this country needs to show the petty dictators that we aren’t sheep any more.
MI law is the same. I believe that I should be the one who decides which police officers and under what circumstances I share that information with. Honest officers are in no more danger from me than I am from them. In the case of dishonest officers, the danger level goes up for both sides.
In MI they say that CCL's are not flagged to the license plates. You can believe that if you wish. A friends wife was harassed about her not showing her CCL when driving her husbands truck. It is not a problem now that she has one, but when it happened, she couldn't show what she didn't have.
