Climategate: five Aussie MPs lead the way by resigning in disgust over carbon tax

Australia is leading the revolt against Al Gore’s great big AGW conspiracy – just as the Aussie geologist and AGW sceptic Professor Ian Plimer predicted it would.

ABC news reports that five frontbenchers from Australia’s opposition Liberal party have resigned their portfolios rather than follow their leader Malcolm Turnbull in voting with Kevin Rudd’s Government on a new Emissions Trading Scheme.

The Liberal Party is in turmoil with the resignations of five frontbenchers from their portfolios this afternoon in protest against the emissions trading scheme.

Tony Abbott, Sophie Mirabella, Tony Smith and Senators Nick Minchin and Eric Abetz have all quit their portfolios because they cannot vote for the legislation.

Senate whip Stephen Parry has also relinquished his position.

The ETS is Australia’s version of America’s proposed Cap and Trade and the EU’s various carbon reduction schemes: a way of taxing business on its CO2 output. As Professor Plimer pointed out when I interviewed him in the summer, this threatens to cause enormous economic damage in Australia’s industrial and mining heartlands, not least because both are massively dependent on Australia’s vast reserves of coal. It is correspondingly extremely unpopular with Aussie’s outside the pinko, libtard metropolitan fleshpots.

Though the ETS squeaked narrowly through Australia’s House of Representatives, its Senate is proving

So if they resign...then the power all goes to the Cap and Trade @$$holes???

that sounds more like an easy way out....why not go against rules of order and scream bloody murder in the meetings till they are thrown out...that sounds like the better solution.....

I haven’t been paying much attention to Australian politics. We really need to kick Malcolm out. So, how likely will we pass this cap and trade bill? I’m thinking of voting Liberal next election, to make sure this bill never pass. The poor will see their electricity bill skyrocket, all thanks to the Labor party, and eco fascist

no, resigning from portfolio position does not mean they’ve stop fighting. It just mean they could not ally with their party leader, by moving backbench, where they could still vote against the bill

So what does "resigning your portfolio" actually mean?

They are resigning positions in the shadow government. It's an inter-party fight in the more conservative opposition party.
The article mentions Heaven and Earth by Plimer, that's having a large impact in Australia. I'm reading it. You can get it on Amazon for about $12.
Hopefully, the Hadley CRU scandal will have an added effect.

Where they lead, the rest of the world’s politicians will eventually be forced to follow: their appalled electorates will make sure of it.

We can't dissolve our government that way, and few of our politicians fear their own constituents.

from the article, it appears over half of the party members favor the bill, while the smaller half is against it This is bad. If everyone on the Labor party is for it, wont this pass fairly easily?

Indeed. We always knew Anthropogenic Global Warming ™ was junk science, now we have the evidence that the junk scientists knew it, too. Ha!

Globull Warming Hoax Fraud

I don't refer to it as a hoax. A hoax is a family who claims their kid is in a balloon flying across Colorado.

This is a FRAUD issue. It has been planned and perpetrated and money has changed hands and collusion and corruption and hiding data and erasing emails, and getting grants based on falsified reports, etc.

It is way beyond the hoax stage; it is FRAUD.
