Fear tends to hide the truth from us. Most of what our society believes about sex offenders is not true. Below are just a few of the beliefs we were taught that are either misleading or completely untrue:
Epidemic of rape-murders: The Somer Renee Thompson case is a tragedy indeed, but is a very rare tragedy. In the NISMART-2 study from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, only 115 stereotypical kidnappings occurred in the year of the study, with only 45 of those cases ended in death or were permanently missing [1]. Your child has a far greater chance winning a multi-million dollar lottery or dying of Swine Flu than dying at the hands of a registered sex offender.

So if a convicted child sex offender moves into my neighborhood I should call out the ‘Welcome Wagon’?
Excellent article. He makes some god points. The problem is How do we sort out the real troublemakers from the ones who just made one mistake?
(Hate when that happens)
Sex offender registries simply beg the question, why are violent offenders (I am not talking about someone had underage sex with someone else who was underage) of any sort out on the streets to begin with?
Might I suggest poisoned PullUps tossed over their fence.
People don’t want the truth or statistics.
dying at the hands of a registered sex offender.
Yes and molestation is no big deal right?
Great question! Truth is, when you get to looking at these violent offenders, after they’ve raped and/or killed or kidnapped again, you see all sorts of tell tale signs that were missed or ignored by parole or probation supervisors. Even when neighbors have called and complained about strange behavior or odors there is often little more than a cursory exam of the facts.
Truly statistics are your friend regardless of which side of the argument one is on.
I wonder if these are the reliable studies that included large numbers of incarcerated sex offenders who did not have the opportunity to re-offend.
Yes, with...
Torches and pitchforks and clubs, OH MY!
Torches and pitchforks and clubs, OH MY!
Child molesters need to be executed in public
Since most sex offenders are family members we can halt most if not all sex offenses by breaking up families at the birth of every child.
You are brilliant!!!
Why not? If you are friendly and accept people into the community and offer friendship then it may help in their rehabilitation. Naturally you don’t let them babysit and encourage kids to avoid socializing with them. Unless you are going to go out and create a place for these people to live in solitude then you need to accept that once they’re out of jail they need to go somewhere.
an arrest was made today of a 24 yr old in Meridian, Miss who lived in the neighborhood —arrested on child pornography charges with 1 million dollar bond.
