Michael Savage-The Forgotten Talk Radio Star

No one can deny his ratings, his influence, his tremendous book success, his ravenously loyal fans, and his impact - yet it's almost as though the rest of the Talk Radio Community doesn't know he exists.

It seems like so many of the big names in talk are "pal-ing" around, referencing each others work, appearing on each others program, yet where is Dr. Savage?

What could be causing this?

It's not like they never mention him (just very rarely), yet when they do... I can almost sense a tone of "dissimal" - like he's not legitimate. Why? Is it just personal, do they all know something we don't?

And his books are so huge, yet where is he on the news, on the cable channels (very rare indeed)? Is he such a loose cannon everyone is afraid of him.

It seems the only time he's in the news is when he gets into trouble - see MSNBC firing, and banning from the UK.

Clearly we have more questions than answers... as we continue to try and uncover the "dirty little secret" (if there is one)

So in closing I turn to you - for your take on 2 key questions about Michael Savage:

1. Is Michael Savage treated...

Boortz’s assistant Royal Marshall used to have a show called “The Royal Treatment” which got cancelled and replaced by Savage. I’m sure that also had something to do with Neal’s vitriol.

I used to listen to him just to hear him go off on callers. Callers are by far the worst part of any talk show. They seldom have a point beyond the simplest of slogans, and I'd much rather hear the host's monologue. Savage seems to use his callers as a launching pad to melt down on a tirade, and that's interesting radio.

However, the dude is on late enough that the AM stations power down and you can't hear him or he gets pre-empted by some stupid sporting event. That's too frustrating, so I stopped trying to listen.

I would not call Dr. Savage a loose cannon. He is a giant among Lilliputians in Talk Radio. No one; no one has the insight, wit, and intelligence of Mike Savage. Hannity and Limbaugh are sissies compared to Savage. In fact they are "politically correct" and deafeningly silent in dealing with real censorship and other issues relating to Savage.

I think he meant Laurel and Hardy. An easy mistake to make.

“Another fine mess you’ve gotten me into!”

I note that a thread about Doc S. gets a lot of traffic! LOL

You know, I'm still waiting on that Danny DeVito autograph, so excuse me if I'm a bit pithy. ;)

Last night’s thread was pretty weak, too. What’s going on? Did you guys all take up macrame or something?

Your #51—I agree. Love his “borders, language, culture.” I may be the odd one on this thread, but I would love to spend an evening with Dr. Savage and pick his brain. If nothing else, it would be memorable!

Definitely not complimentary to Stan and Ollie.

I prefer to think of those two as Spanky and Alfalfa.

I'm having a hard time deciding which is which here.

Boortz portrays himself as a libertarian, but in many respects he is libertine. When it comes down to the “values voters” he is a mean-spirited a bigot as you will find on radio. He often rails against tax-and-spend lefties, but his true venom is reserved for “crazies” who “have to get over their obsession with unborn babies”, faith, common decency, etc. His Christophobia is something to behold. I used to listen to him late at night, but have had no trouble giving that up once I got it that his hatred is reserved for conservative Christians. Wonder what happened to him (or what he is doing now) to cause this level of disgust? Plus, his show features the execrable Jamie Dupree, who never has anything critical to say about the thugs in Washington, which is pretty much in keeping with his status in the press brothel of Capitol Hill.

I tune in to Savage every now and then to see what he is talking about and if he is lucid. If he is, and the topic interests me, I will listen for a while until his manic intensity makes me turn the channel.

I'm with you, my friend...

He's not purified conservatism but he is nonetheless a treasure of individualistic thought...

Let's tip a glass (tonight it's pomegranate martinis) in honor of Dr. Savage......

Oh boy, posters on this thread work harder to attack Savage than they do the man destroying America, Obama.

Savage offends you, hurts your feelings, ruffles your emotions, says bad things, waaaaaa!

The NEA and public school system stole your wills. Political correctness rules your lives.

I heard the first show that Michael Savage ever did on KGO back in 1994. It was a weekend show. I've been a fan and a listener for a long time. I remember when he only had a small local show.

What I've never understood about Savage is why he made such vicious attacks on other conservative talk show hosts. This is why they will not come to his aid now. He has trashed just about every big time conservative in some of the most savage ways. There was no reason to do this. They never attacked him. Yes some liberal people at KGO conspired against Savage as did some in the SF Press. But those are the people who deserve Savage's attacks, not the conservative talk show hosts. I could never figure out why Savage did this other than to get publicity and be provocative. It was not a smart move. Yes the conservatives should support him and when asked, they say he was wronged by UK. But they sure aren't going out of their way to support him. Can you blame them?

Rush has interesting analyses. But Michael Savage has a different and also interesting analyses. The others repeat the Rush angle. So I like to hear more original thought.

Michael Savage puts out information that the rest of them don’t and he is the toughest host in talk. He’s never been part of the club, nor, I think, does he want to be.

Thanks for the info! I don’t have the time to listen to Michael like I used to but I do listen on occasion. Absolutely love that guy for all his passion and his heart and intelligence.
