I've waited until the President could address the issue in his own words to comment. Now that he has addressed the issue, I am furious.
My question goes directly to the President's credibility after this statement, directly to his honor. It is simple.

It's a missed opportunity. Had he declined to accept the award, he would have shut up all the critics just like that. His supporters could praise him. He'd be going against the elitist label he's tagged with. He should have turned it down politely. That would have been a home run.
Can you imagine? Limbaugh's just about to go on the air and The One declines the award? It would have been a slam dunk.

Obozo’s American values have been on display in downtown Detroit in the face of a greedy mob fighting over free money they didn’t earn.
Its quite telling that he accepts a prize he clearly didn’t earn.

The words “Obama” and “honor” do not belong in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence, except in the context of mutual exclusion.

These guys are embarrassing. So who has won, now? Carter. Arafat. Gore. Obama.
Frauds, everyone. If you accidently pick a fraud once in a while, its faulty judgement. If you pick frauds again and again, its purposeful. The “Nobel Peace” committee is itself a fraud. The press monkeys that play it up are frauds.
And the mighty O is the greatest living fraud of my lifetime.

Declining it goes against his megalomaniacal greedy DNA.
There's no way he was going to decline it.

Very good point!! It would take all the air out of his critic's sails.
Simply say:
"I do not know how I was nominated, and although I am honored at the nomination and award, I feel that there are far more deserving individuals than I; therefore I cannot accept this high honor"
It would have shown President Obama to have been 'presidential', it would have shown his critics that he is not narcissitic and that he has a sense of humility.
As it is, he made himself a punch-line of a humiliating joke.

Seems so obvious to me. Critics would have been completely flat-footed. Bloggers would have had to retract their hastily published articles. Limbaugh would have been forced to say in shocked surprise that Obama did the right thing. It would have been devestating to his opponents, and would have given him some public momentum. Seems completely obvious to me, but what do I know?
