I have a niece who is all but called me a racist. I don’t think she would but, the undercurrent is there. I use to be intimated by that, even though I know I’m not and any accusation would be ridicules. But, the left and PC crowd has used that stick so much, it has become meaningless. Did none of these people every read the story about the little boy who cried wolf?

When I am in the situation you describe (my family asking me if I am something -- a conservative, a teabagger, a whatever-it-is), I ask them if we can not talk about labels -- what we call each other -- and instead talk abot issues.

Because I find that if we talk about issues (health care, foreign policy, etc.), it provides me the opportunity to educate my family members on what I believe -- often with the result that they come to understand that what they really don't know what "conservatives or teabaggers or whatever-it-is" think.

You could simply say “Don’t be ignorant, you sound like a fool” and see what they say.

Then ask them if they even know what a “teabagger” really is and if they truly mean to insult you in that personally derogatory manner because if they do then the conversation is over.

Most people don’t realize it’s a disgusting sexual act. Most decent people would be hugely embarrassed for saying such a thing to a family member.

The important thing is that if they are going to launch against you with such things then you must keep turning the conversation back to their ignorance and pettiness until they drop it entirely. Never, ever entertain the notion that you are a racist for even one second. Turn their insolence and insults back into a commentary on their boorish behavior. That’s the honest and (usually) effective thing to do.

calling someone racist is 99.9% of the time today just the blurt of someone who can’t or won’t defend empirical evidence and who is oblivious to their own bigotry towards non minorities

we have created a nation of folks so hypersensitive over race...over blacks in particular that folks just can’t talk without the nervous jitters and qualifying everything as nauseum

and those with a dog in the race baiting hunt exploit this like there is no tommorow

what always puzzled me is why?
