Has any mainstream media outlet mentioned the Patrick Swayze movie that made moonbats nuts during the Reagan era?
A Politically Incorrect Vision of Guerilla War by John Milius When Hollywood decides to make a controversial film, it is usually about a subject or theme that the Hollywood community, which tends to be to the left of the political spectrum, agrees on and the movie watching audience does not. In 1984, director John Milius, fresh from successful films like The Wind and the Lion and Conan the Barbarian, decided to create controversy in a different way. He made Red Dawn, a film depicting the Soviet invasion of the United States and the efforts of partisans, mainly high school kids, to fight them off. Hollywood has never forgiven Milius for doing this.
Red Dawn starts in the near future (from circa 1984), when NATO has collapsed, Mexico has fallen to Marxist revolution, and America, in essence, stands alone. A High School history class in a small town in Colorado is being treated to a lecture about Geingas Khan. Quietly, almost unobtrusively, a Soviet parachute unit is dropping down in the footfall field outside. The teacher is killed, students are killed, and pandemonium breaks out.
A group of students, along with an older youth played by Patrick Swayze, flee into the wilderness, armed with hunting rifles and supplies taken from a gas station/convenience store owned by one of their fathers. At first they survive by hunting and fishing, but soon find that their town is occupied by a Soviet Army that is also comprised of Cubans and Nicaraguans. An incident with some Russians soldiers occurs with the Russians winding up dead, weapons are captured, and the guerilla war is on.

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effects Generation Reagan / Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

I got it on DVD a few years ago and watch it about once a year. I think it is actually a pretty entertaining movie. Some of the messages are a bit overt, but the lessons are good regardless.
It has more staying power than any of the last star wars movies, lethal weapon movies, etc.
It was excellent! I need to go buy the dvd.
I imagine that starting this weekend it will be non-stop Roadhouse and Dirty Dancing again on AMC.
Buy the DVD. Watch it on a nice cool fall evening when it is just you and your son......you will both love it.
How old is your “little boy”? there is a lot of killing in it.....you might want to watch it first then decide.
I know that at one time it was rated as the movie with the most killings ever shown in film . I wouldn’t rec. for kids under 12. ( when they can usually legally own a weapon or hunt )
You can usually find a copy or two on dvd at pawn shops. Shoot, I have 300 movies and only a handfull were purchased new. If you’re paying more than $4 for DVD’s your paying too much. And THAT is an upper limit. ;)
Yes, it’s really good.
I have most of his movies on tape......I will have to start collecting them on DVD.....Ghost was an awesome movie. My teenagers watched it and understood evil.
The thing that ticked off liberals the most was the scene where the Cuban commander instructs his men to check the gun registration forms to find those that would likely put up the most resistance.
Interesting its being remade as we discuss this, btw.
The production quality is typical of the 80's, which is a bit lacking by today's standards.
But the plot, script, acting, etc.. All terrific!
Its a very well made, written, directed and acted movie, although there are a few low-budget mistakes.
The main problem is the supposition that a consortium of Mexicans, Russkies, Cubans and other left-wing statists could launch a successful invasion of the USA.
Yes
At the Arlington?
I was probably there.
A fantastic Saturday afternoon movie with lots of popcorn.
Go Wolverines!!
High school kids fighting communists who have attacked the US! That was a great movie but I swear I never saw it run again.
I hope there’s a lot of his movies on this weekend. I’ll record Red Dawn for sure.
