I got it on DVD a few years ago and watch it about once a year. I think it is actually a pretty entertaining movie. Some of the messages are a bit overt, but the lessons are good regardless.
It has more staying power than any of the last star wars movies, lethal weapon movies, etc.
I’m with you. I dust off that DVD about once a year. I agree the message may be somewhat overt if not outright blunt, but that’s what it takes to reach denser minds. I didn’t see much that has not played out when communists (or fascists) take charge:
- disarm the citizenry by whatever means necessary
- put suspected dissidents in reeducation camps
- execute the un-rehabilitated
- execute civilians in reprisal for guerrilla attacks
- recruit weasel politicians as pawns
- turn a family member over to the commissars
- foment a constant barrage of propaganda
and on and on. Good entertainment with a solid message. Swayze was excellent. WOLVERINES!
