Only Free Republic Stands After Vista SP2

Posted on 09/10/2009 9:21:03 PM PDT by KungFuBrad

My windows vista had me download 3 updates today. Told me they where "Important" one was called Vista Service Pack 2.

After downloading them I can not get to any web pages except Free Republic.

I am guessing its a DNS problem but Free Republic must be a SuperPage. It's faster then a speeding vista problem, able to leap DNS problems with a single bound, etc, etc.

“I think it’s just the opposite ... it’s a simple site without all the insane gizmos.”

And that is what I love about it. Well, that and FReepers.

Can you use OpenDNS if your pc is on a home network and using a usb adaptor to connect to the other pc’s router?

You can use OpenDNS just about anywhere. You just have to override the DNS settings for your network connection.

Cruising along with Ubuntu 9.04 on an old machine and FireFox 3.0 - no worries.

Windoze - reboot early, reboot often, give it lots of memory, and always have your virus protection up to date.

I’m in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Same trouble here and I’m on TimeWarner as well. Are we seeing a trend?

Yep. I am Time Warner Cable too. I can only get into a few sites, but can’t open email. I have called in the past and found that they’ve been hacked, or had a virus, or a main line of some sort went down. Usually they are up within an hour or two. If it is something major, might not be up until tomorrow.

Time Warner does some strange things sometimes. 3 weeks ago I couldn’t get into my trading software because TW had the ports blocked on their server.

I wonder what reach Time Warner has. I’ve never checked. Do you know if it’s nation-wide?

Not sure. We will probably know more soon. The best way is to call and ask. It is late though and think I will be shutting down for the evening soon anyway. It is evening, the wait times for a response I called would be fairly short though.
