Here is video of Actress Patricia Heaton on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?", playing for charity. The scene that unfolds you will not believe if you have not seen it. On the very first question, Heaton is asked a simple math question that just dumbfounds her. It's painful to watch! Host Regis Philbin was exhausted by the time it was over! . . . . (Watch Video)

Ryan was given $100 to shop with by his grandmother. He shopped in a store where he gets a 40% employee discount. What is the retail amount he can purchase with his $100?
The $100 becomes 60% of the total merchandise value (100%-40% discount).
The inverse (1/x) of .60 (60%) = 1.6667. Thus, the total value of the merchandise = $166.67.
Will definitely forgive her for not knowing 30 quarters = $7.50

Yeh, well, it’s like I’ve always said, there are three kinds of people in the world: those who understand math and those who don’t.
I once forgot how to spell “of”. I kept thinking it had to be “uv” or maybe “uhv”. This lasted for nearly 5 minute before I suddenly remembered how to spell it. And this was not a “senior moment” - I was about 13 at the time. It was total brain lock on that one thing. Very strange.

Why ?
What would we have done if it was Obama, Biden, Pelosi or Reid who flubbed this question ?
And What would the left have done if it was Quayle, Palin, Bush or Cheney ?
They would have been figuratively boiled in oil is what would have happened. She does not get a pass from me.
Looks like one of my old Calc tests!

But I have ALWAYS had trouble with arithmetic.
Not PhD, but BS and MS, and did weapons development for over 10 years doing Calc, Diff EQs and such every day and I still have trouble adding and subtracting.
I last saw a sine and a cosine 45 years ago ...I never want to see another one
LOL - best post of the day - gotta steal that one!
That identity still blows my mind.

Anyone write that one in your yearbook? I think it was in mine something like thirty times.
Elimination is too much. Just take off the zero. 3 quarters is 75-cents so 30 is $7.50. 4 times $1.50 is $6.00 plus $1.50 is $7.50.
At least that’s what I did in my head.
I thought the question was decently difficult to do on the spot in a game show on national television, and I aced differential equations.

no.....No one loved me in high school or beyond
One of the charities she was playing for was a pregnancy center in LA that helps unwed mothers carry their babies to term and Regis did not dwell on that charity at all. Did not want her saying anything about being anti-abortion.
