I remember one Saturday afternoon, as I was bending out the window handing a man his venti, quad-shot, half sugar-free-vanilla half sugar-free-hazelnut, six splenda, extra hot, non-fat, no foam latte-with a sprinkle of cinnamon- served in a double cup plus hot sleeve, he said, "I want to buy the drink of whoever is behind me. Is that do-able?"

I looked at the car behind and and for some reason the first thing that came out of my mouth was, "Why?"

"I want to show them the love of Jesus in a practical way." he said. "Is it do-able?"

"Yeah, sure." I pushed the button that brought the other car's order you and told him the price. As he paid for it, he also handed me a small card that read: Have a wonderful day! Jesus loves you and thought you needed a drink on me."

If I’m in line @ a Wawa or 7-11 and some behind me is in uniform with a coffee I’ll tell the cashier I’m paying for his coffee or soda. I then turn and thank them for their service and ask them to tell their friends that a lot of Americans love and support them.

Cowboy up, learn to drink it black.

The other day I was getting my hair cut and a reservist, in camo's was waiting for his. I asked the barber if the soldier was a regular and what his haircut would cost. I was told he was in every few weeks so when I paid for mine, I gave the barber $16 for the soldier and tried to beat it out before he found out.

As many have discovered, it's hard to escape the US Military and he caught up with me as I was getting to my car; thanked me and shook my hand.

I looked at him and told him I was still very deeply in his debt.

There’s a lot of this going around. Last November we were having dinner in the restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Atlanta. A uniformed soldier was finishing up his meal. Just before I could catch the server to ask her to put the soldier’s meal on our tab, she went over to him and said “You know you don’t have to pay, right?” Well, it seems that the hotel beat me to it and picked up his tab. Good for the Crowne Plaza.
