If, somehow, we could instantly and magically replace every existing power plant in America with wind and solar power, there wouldn't be a single drop of crude oil that was truly saved by that action.

Simply check your tire pressure, you’ll be fine.
the author is right. There were a lot of central station generating units powered by oil in the 50s through early 70s, but they all got converted to gas or coal or retired. Many of these were fired with the “bottoms” or Bunker C fuel oil, essentially a waste from refineries. That was typically a very high sulfur content viscous material that polluted heavily. So, between emission controls and using oil for more premium uses than generating power, oil combustion for power generation essentially ended. I personally worked on many “repowering” projects to convert furnaces from firing oil to other fuels.
I still believe the technology is out there to build an engine not using gas/oil. For cryin’ out loud, for over 100 years, as one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, we’ve been producing machinery/engines dependent upon a commodity that comes from countries ruled by despots who don’t like us. In fact these islamic countries would gleefully cheer our demise, but need us to buy their one main commodity to keep them in a quality of life they’ve grown accustomed to.
The last oil fired generating unit I worked on was thirty years ago. Natural gas combustion turbines in combined cycle units seem to be the popular way to generate power the past decade or so.
Have you ever noticed the most popular technology used by generating companies is almost always the most efficient? Funny how that works out.
We buy it from other nations because the Looters in DC and the envirnomental Nazis won’t let us harvest our own abundant energy resources.
Your comments about sending money to countries that would cheer our demise is just as true of China. You know, that country that now manufactures a lot of the commodities that we require for comfort and stuff like that.
What a surprise. I personally think burning natural gas in CTs is very stupid. The fuel has much higher energy value in home heating, commercial heating and cooling and as a feedstock for many processes. We can use nuclear and coal to make electricity just fine. Put the fuel to work where it makes most sense. We wouldn’t be firing NG in CTCCs if it weren’t for the extreme greenie weenies (no sulfur, high thermal efficiency, low carbon). Wasting precious NG on making power is criminally insane.
“For cryin out loud, for over 100 years, as one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, weve been producing machinery/engines dependent upon a commodity that comes from countries ruled by despots who dont like us.”
The reason we are dependant on these countries lies in Washington. When they started talking about energy “independance” in the 70’s we have become more dependant on foreigners every year.
In DC, Alternative Energy=Arab Oil
Pray for America
In the sixties every vehicle on our farm ran on butane; pickup, tractors, everything. We didn’t use natural gas because we didn’t have any out there in the country, but I am sure the technology is almost identical for butane and natural gas.
Wouldn't worry about wasting much NG. Bus bar costs are too high due to fuel price. Pretty much used in peakers now. NG makes lots of CO2 when burned, an inconvenient fact for the greenies. Now, the CO2 "crisis" is a scam so let's don't worry about that. Oil is the best energy storage medium for commercial use we have. We have plenty of oil. We can convert coal to oil presently for about $60/bbl. We can bury the bast@rds in the ME with this. Our energy crisis is politically contrived hogwash. How about we use some energy and tar and feather our enslavers in DC?
What they mean by “reduced dependency on foreign oil” is
reduced usage of energy by the masses.
Only the neo-nobles should use energy, everyone else must be strictly limited.
The big lie is not what you think it is.
Nearly all agree on this goal for America; "reduce America's dependence on foreign oil".
The big lie is that the Democrats do not truly subscribe to that position. Monitor the Democrat's deeds instead of their words. You will discover the Democrat's actual goal is to "reduce America's dependence on foreign oil".
They have been using the Alternative Energy scam for 30 yrs and have made us more dependent on Arab Oil than ever. You might even think they want the Arabs to control us.
Pray for America
