Although–or, perhaps, because–liberalism has dominated public education since the 1960s, test results and competency in general continue to decline, much to the stated chagrin of officials in the school system and local, state, and federal governments. Barack Obama has made reforming the education system in America one of his highest priorities.
“[Education reform] will require a willingness to break free from the same debates that Washington has been engaged in for decades – Democrat versus Republican; vouchers versus the status quo; more money versus more accountability,” Obama has said. “And most of all, it will take a president who is honest about the challenges we face – who doesn’t just tell everyone what they want to hear, but what they need to hear.”
For sake of argument, what if the administration approached education in the same way they have approached health care?
The president has used very dire rhetoric in describing the health care “crisis,” even going so far as to claim that health care expenses are the primary cause of the current economic catastrophe/recession/depression/slowdown. To solve this problem, the government would, if the bill is passed, introduce “competition” to the marketplace. Private health insurance companies would have much stricter regulation, and any private insurance benefits given by employers would be eligible to be taxed as income. The government’s plan, therefore, would become increasingly attractive.
It is easy to picture the president making the same arguments about education. Indeed, on the president’s web site, he has already made similar statements.
“At this defining moment in our history, preparing our children to compete in the global economy is one of the most urgent challenges we face,” reads Obama’s statement on education...

If we are going to have a Department of Education, the only thing that they need to be doing is:
Specifying the standard test to be taken to assign grade level for students who move from state to state.
Sadly, you aren't that president, Mr. Obama.

My biggest fear is that they push for a “nationalized” Police Force.. Basically a police force like the one in Escape from New York..
Education is already dominated by liberals. They have the teachers unions sewn up nicely...Why do you think Vouchers are such a big deal...they would allow parents and students to be free of Gov’t and make their own choices....

You’re absolutely right... I didn’t mean to imply that they had little control at the moment. But it’s still not centralized in an official capacity. States and localities still have a lot of sway over their schools.
By appealing to the incessant failures of the public schools and using the same line of logic that they’re currently using with health care, however, the federal government could more effectively rid the market of competition from private and home schools.
Actually, I think that’s what AmeriCorps is for, right? :D Wait, why am I smiling?

And they will have been given more than ample help from so-called elected officials and candidates who approved of and campaigned for massive, intrusive federal programs like No Child Left behind.

Any homeschooler who didn’t know this already, wasn’t paying attention.
And when they do, they’ll get the bullets first.
Strangely, there are a lot of left wing homeschoolers who don't see danger in Obama and Socialism.
We all knew it. This is just a sort of two-minute warning.
This is ALWAYS Obama-speak for "Republicans needs to shut up so we can tax the hell out of everything that moves and spend more money than will ever exist."
