I dont remember when I first become convinced that homeschooling was the only type of education I wanted for our children. I do know it was long before I ever became pregnant! Now that weve finished our fifth year of homeschooling and weve started taking prepping seriously, Im more glad than ever that we chose this route for our family.
Homeschooling provides a continuous flow of education in spite of changing circumstances.
A dramatic decline in income might force a family to move to another neighborhood, city, or even to a different state. Other than losing some time in the moving process, kids pick right back up where they left off in their studies. The trauma of leaving one school and starting over in another is a non-issue. A multitude of free homeschooling resources online can take the place of more expensive curriculum if need be.
In the case of a pandemic, kids would already be at home, along with their textbooks, computers, and everything else they need to learn. We wouldnt have to worry about school closing down nor be concerned about what to do with the kids in the case of a quarantine. Think Im crazy? Look at all the schools that shut down during the (very) mild Swine Flu epidemic!
Any event that would normally disrupt the school year doesnt have nearly the same impact for homeschoolers. During a time of intense stress and change, a homeschooling family is together, along with the reassurance and the anchor that only parents can provide.
Summer has just begun. If the idea of homeschooling has ever crossed your mind, now is the perfect time to take a closer look. Youll find a variety of helpful articles here. There are thousands of resources online, but for basic information, here are a few of my favorite sites.

Youll find expert advice at these sites and hundreds of others. Additionally, please feel free to ask me your homeschooling questions on this blog or via email.
Follow your heart, isnt always the best advice, but when it comes to homeschooling, I think its an excellent guide. If your heart is telling you to, at least, consider homeschooling, theres no better time to do that than over the summer!
Homeschooling has a huge advantage over Govt. funded and mandated education. One is nothing more than a Govt. funded indoctrination program while the other is actually teaching kids how to survive on their own.

DItto, ditto, ditto!! We are now entering Year #4 of our program at home, with benefits and results far beyond expectations!!
I’ve got three grown children. 28, 30 and 32. They all went to public schools, did well in their classes and went on to private colleges. 2 out of 3 graduated college.
They all voted Obama. As far as I know, they are still Obama cheerleaders. I don’t talk to them about it.
Wife and I adopted her granddaughter, who will turn 1 year old a week from tomorrow, June 22. She will NEVER attend US public schools.
Yes, Obama received a mojority of the college-educated vote. This is a problem as most US colleges and universities are merely tools of the Left where they disseminate their socialis/communist propaganda.
I believe that if you cannot send your child to a college or university where you are sure he/she will not be indoctrinated with Leftist ideology, you should not send your child to university.
Hey, thanks for finding this article on my blog. :o)
We homeschool, but I wish we lived in a rural area so my kids could learn more self-sufficient skills. We’re doing our best. Dd is learning sewing this summer, both kids know how to shoot .22 rifles.
Best decision we ever made and now that our daughter is homeschooling our granddaughter, our family is 2nd generation homeschoolers.
Entering 4th year of homeschooling here, and recently (since 0bama) got very serious about prepping. Prepping is now part of homeschool :-)
Preaching to the choir ping.....
Good for you. Give her a thinking brain, strong teeth and sharp claws. That’ll serve her well in the coming fight.
Don't dog your kids, all public schools are not bad.
There are simply a few nasty internet harridans hereabout that would try to make you think so.
Mostly they make their kids look good by putting down other's kids.
Sad, really.
That’s your blog?!?
Great Job!
I love the reference to the Swine Flu. When they closed our local schools, my girls asked if they could have the day off too. *snicker*

You and I have had this conversation before. You know I am not a rabid homeschooler and believe that one must to the best with one’s children.
However, that poster seems to indicate that if he were the custodial parent he would homeschool. It’s sad that the choice is not his.
What parent “decides” to send his/her kids to college? Isn’t that decision made by the student/child?/adult? Seriously, most people attend college when they’re about 18 or so, which means they are adults. It’s their choice.
My kids can go to whatever college they get the most scholarship money. I have no fear they’ll become “indoctrinated” by some outside influence.
My eldest got a ton of academic scholarship money as well as some athletic scholarship money. She’s 18 1/2 yrs old. She’s an adult.
I think if a parent is worrying about sending their child to college/university and that 18 yr old being “indoctrinated” then they didn’t do their job as a parent way back when it mattered. And, sometimes, it doesn’t matter how well parents parent and it’s all up to their kids, eventually.
Thus, my husband and I have done the best we could do and now it’s all up to the kid (who is actually an adult). We didn’t wrap her or her sisters in bubble wrap and we didn’t prevent them from living life. They’ll form their own opinions based on all their knowledge. Isn’t that what we want?
Back when I was in college, in the 80s, I was a Reagan supporter. My husband wasn’t. He’s probably more Conservative than me now.
So, if one is worrying about their adult children, then THAT is a problem, imo.
Heh. Yep.
This is one of the bad ones or at least one that believes in the current, anything goes kind of thinking. They have a Oprah way of thinking. Don’t know how many others are out there like this one.
You’re lucky if your kids have enough savings and scholarships that they don’t need you to contribute to their college educations. I don’t think that’s true for most.
What I was trying to say is that there are a few good colleges where students are Not indoctrinated with Leftist ideology. Those are preferable. If you can’t send your child to one of those schools, it might be better if they don’t go.
Both my parents were Republicans, and I was too, until about the second year at a state university. It took a long time before my political/economic ideas matured.
Of course, if the children are entirely financially independent, they can do what they want.
The simple fact is that college education can really help with finding job IF, and it’s bif IF they are going into a career where it would be relevant - i.e. medicine, engineering, or other technical fields.
I think way too many people go to college, for ‘the experience’ of getting wasted and stds I guess. The biggest thing is teaching kids logic and rhetoric, I had to sit through a few gen-ed courses taught by the usual liberal suspects.
Being able to identify both the factual errors and misrepresentation and logical flaws due to the education my mom gave me in history, logic, and rhetoric hardened my convictions more than anything and I was able to effectively defend my beliefs even against professors - fortunately they were not so vindictive as other cases I’ve read about.
Still, I think there is no reason to simply surrender academia and fields requiring advanced education to the liberals. I would like very much, when I’m 40 or 50 or so to be a teacher for undergrads or highschoolers. I can only imagine how nuts I will drive the other faculty! :-D
