Yes, Obama received a mojority of the college-educated vote. This is a problem as most US colleges and universities are merely tools of the Left where they disseminate their socialis/communist propaganda.

I believe that if you cannot send your child to a college or university where you are sure he/she will not be indoctrinated with Leftist ideology, you should not send your child to university.

What parent “decides” to send his/her kids to college? Isn’t that decision made by the student/child?/adult? Seriously, most people attend college when they’re about 18 or so, which means they are adults. It’s their choice.

My kids can go to whatever college they get the most scholarship money. I have no fear they’ll become “indoctrinated” by some outside influence.

My eldest got a ton of academic scholarship money as well as some athletic scholarship money. She’s 18 1/2 yrs old. She’s an adult.

I think if a parent is worrying about sending their child to college/university and that 18 yr old being “indoctrinated” then they didn’t do their job as a parent way back when it mattered. And, sometimes, it doesn’t matter how well parents parent and it’s all up to their kids, eventually.

Thus, my husband and I have done the best we could do and now it’s all up to the kid (who is actually an adult). We didn’t wrap her or her sisters in bubble wrap and we didn’t prevent them from living life. They’ll form their own opinions based on all their knowledge. Isn’t that what we want?

Back when I was in college, in the 80s, I was a Reagan supporter. My husband wasn’t. He’s probably more Conservative than me now.

So, if one is worrying about their adult children, then THAT is a problem, imo.

The simple fact is that college education can really help with finding job IF, and it’s bif IF they are going into a career where it would be relevant - i.e. medicine, engineering, or other technical fields.

I think way too many people go to college, for ‘the experience’ of getting wasted and stds I guess. The biggest thing is teaching kids logic and rhetoric, I had to sit through a few gen-ed courses taught by the usual liberal suspects.

Being able to identify both the factual errors and misrepresentation and logical flaws due to the education my mom gave me in history, logic, and rhetoric hardened my convictions more than anything and I was able to effectively defend my beliefs even against professors - fortunately they were not so vindictive as other cases I’ve read about.

Still, I think there is no reason to simply surrender academia and fields requiring advanced education to the liberals. I would like very much, when I’m 40 or 50 or so to be a teacher for undergrads or highschoolers. I can only imagine how nuts I will drive the other faculty! :-D

==This is a problem as most US colleges and universities are merely tools of the Left where they disseminate their socialis/communist propaganda.==

The Origins of Political Correctness by Bill Lind delivered to various AIA conferences including the 2000 Consevative University at American University:

[...]

"...The totalitarian nature of Political Correctness is revealed nowhere more clearly than on college campuses, many of which at this point are small ivy covered North Koreas, where the student or faculty member who dares to cross any of the lines set up by the gender feminist or the homosexual-rights activists, or the local black or Hispanic group, or any of the other sainted "victims" groups that PC revolves around, quickly find themselves in judicial trouble. Within the small legal system of the college, they face formal charges – some star-chamber proceeding – and punishment. That is a little look into the future that Political Correctness intends for the nation as a whole...."

PC? George Orwell had it pegged long ago:

In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

Then this written in 1959 by an FBI agent now educator. Since communism is a failure perhaps another word can be used to replace it in the goals:

Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35
January 10, 1963
Current Communist Goals
EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Thursday, January 10, 1963

[…]

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

Of course the Department of Education was formed under Carter.

Nobody bothered to point out there is nothing in the Constitution about this being a federal task. It belongs to the states.
