By a nearly two to one margin, California voters rejected the compromise tax hike propositions put on the ballot by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) and the Democratic majority of the state assembly.
Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) called voters rejection of the measures a tragic error. Its a demonstration of lack of trust in those of us charged with governing this state, Bass said. We tried to minimize the pain. Now, it will be severe.
Now we will get to see how voters like having their kids home early from school, paying for their own medicine, dodging the thousands of criminals given early paroles, and making citizen arrests, the Speaker continued.
Governor Schwarzenegger concurred that more painful consequences must now follow. There will be major cuts in the budget, Schwarzenegger promised. Top targets for spending reduction include education, health care, prisons, and law enforcement.
Schwarzenegger emphasized that the cuts must occur in highly visible and essential services in order to let people know the consequences of their votes. It would do us no good to make cuts in the parts of government that people dont understand. If we fire planners, consultants, regulators, tax auditors and such, the average citizen wouldnt feel a thing and those who do probably would feel relieved. That sends the wrong message.

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) had better watch her step. If this remark get out she out on her a@@. Guess this dimwit will find out just what silly remarks can do. It's about time to cut their salaries and thin out the State employees. Eliminate much of the duplication and dump environmental crap.
And so now the government of California has become the PUNISHER of the people by declaration.
Time to throw them out!
Our city made the same threat when we voted against one of their pet taxes. What happened? They cut a lot of the social things (parades, park funding, etc.) and donations and private enterprise took over.
Dang it Safr... quit biting at these satire threads!
Oh! Ha! Got me on that. Some of these sound too real to be satire these days.
Hey stop making sense! They don’t need no stinkin’ sense!
Something makes me think that this satire is very close to the truth of how some California elected pols feel . . .
Politicians ALWAYS list the schools first. And if the politicians would do their jobs and enforce the law, the illegal criminals wouldn't be coming into california.

No s*** Sherlock. Get the message, Karen.
Good Lord, seriously . .where do they find these people?

Indicted ex-Vernon official gets $500,000 annual pension Bruce Malkenhorst Sr. is accused of embezzling public funds from the city. He once was the highest-paid city official in California; now he gets the largest pension from CalPERS. By Hector Becerra and Rich Connell May 8, 2009
For years, Bruce Malkenhorst Sr. reigned as the highest-paid city official in California, riding in limousines and making more than half a million dollars a year as city administrator for the tiny industrial town of Vernon. Then the 74-year-old was charged with embezzling public funds.
But Malkenhorst still sits at the top -- this time as the retiree collecting the most money from the state's public employee pension fund. Malkenhorst draws about $500,000 a year in state pension benefits, even as he awaits a trial.
According to figures released this week under a public records request by the California Foundation for Fiscal Responsibility, the former Vernon administrator tops a list of about 4,800 retirees who get more than $100,000 a year from CalPERS.
Marcia Fritz, vice chairman of the organization, said such lucrative pensions are a waste of tax dollars. "We can't afford to pay for this and have a government that functions," she said. Malkenhorst far outpaced the second person on the list, a UCLA physician, who receives $296,555. Vernon officials had no comment Thursday on the pension. Malkenhorst, who has denied any wrongdoing, could not be reached for comment.
Los Angeles County prosecutors allege that he spent $60,000 in city money for personal use, including massages, golf outings and political contributions.
Max Huntsman, the prosecutor who is handling the Malkenhorst case, said it is not illegal to be highly paid, but added that he has "never heard of anybody in any public capacity paid as much as [Malkenhorst]. I don't think any such person has ever existed -- state, federal. Maybe someone in the United [Arab] Emirates." hector.becerra @latimes.com rich.connell@latimes.com SOURCE http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-highest-pension8-2009may08,0,4642907.story
When an employee threatens an employer (taxpayer) what should law enforcement do.
Taxpayers get few services - it is distribution of wealth so we won't miss much since we are not given anything.
Lol. How predictable. It's always the fire dept, police, schools, city water supply etc.. to face cuts first.
get a bulldozer and push the politicians into the sea.....quick!
Reads like what I would expect for the California Elites in Sacramento.
threaten the public with all that, huh?
How about threatening to cut legislators pay...
Imagine the tragedy of hundreds of lawmakers with a 25% pay cut...
oh, the horror...
