Ron Howard on Charlie Rose (5-13-09): "The deeper you delve into the mysteries of creation, the more you're denying the importance of God the Creator."
Angels & Demons stars Tom Hanks, Ayelet Zurer, and director Ron Howard appeared on Charlie Rose last night to discuss the facts rooted in their new movie. Compare the claims made by the A&D cast (see video clip) with those made by the publisher of Movieguide, Dr. Ted Baehr, who saw the film and refutes the movie's portrayal of Christianity and the cast's accusations on Charlie Rose.
Here is a sample from Baehr's column today:
For example, although (unlike the book) the movie's dialogue has some positive statements about faith in Jesus Christ, the person making many of these statements turns out to be the real villain, a mad clergyman who also is one of the most conservative Christians depicted in the story. Furthermore, when confronted by these various statements about Jesus Christ, the hero keeps his agnosticism. In fact, the movie's ultimate impression is that Christians throughout history are mostly a bunch of well meaning but bumbling fools with a few really bad guys and hypocrites included in the bunch. Also unlike the book, the assassin henchman of the mad clergyman in the movie is not a rabid Muslim as he is in the novel, but a very lapsed Catholic. He is not killing for Allah, but for money. [Emphasis added]
One of the biggest lies fostered by both the book and the movie, however, is the lie that science and religion are always at odds. In making this point, the movie clearly takes the side of an atheist definition of science that denies the existence of God.
For example, the movie alleges that the Catholic Church executed four scientists for their scientific beliefs or theories. It also alleges that the church condemned the astronomer/philosopher Galileo as a heretic because of his view that the earth revolved around the sun.
Both of these allegations are false!
Baehr concludes with this:
You don't have to murder somebody to know that it's wrong to murder. And, you don't have to read or see "Angels & Demons" to realize that Dan Brown and Ron Howard are grinding an ax, not only against the Catholic Church and Bible-believing Christians, but also against Jesus Himself.

+++++++++++++
Yeah, he looks like he’s on his death bed also..
Dan Brown is a weapons grade crackpot. But, he writes a decent book in the Indiana Jones vein. The trouble with Brown is that he actually believes what he writes as fiction is actually true.
Ron Howard is an excellent film maker. And truth be told Dan Browns books do make for good cinema. But never for a minute should one believe that Angels and Demons, nor the DaVinci Code is in any way true.
It’s unverifiable. It violates the first rule of a conspiracy.....too many people would have to be in the loop, and remain silent. Just doesn’t work that way. An effective conspiracy has but a few participants. Three to four would be hard to control, hundreds.....impossible.
I love that image! I want to use it at Bible Study, who made it so I can give them credit? Was it you?
I lost all respect for Andy Griffith after those 0bama endorsements he did with little Opie Cunningham.
Sorry but no ... I ran across it when I was researching something ... thought it pretty good .... I bet if you Google the first line you might come up with the quote ...
“Wasn’t it Floyd the Barber. Emmit was the fix it guy. Emit was a regular guy with a nagging wife. Floyd on the other hand, well you had to keep an eye on him. “
You are 100% correct! Floyd was exactly who I was thinking of. Thanks!
That’s fine, I will deny him my $$$
Ok, well I Google’d the first line and actually came up with two websites that quoted the same thing - bit - no attribution so can’t help you there .... though not the same place where I got it - which I can’t remember where ...
Opie was molested by Howard Sprauge

LMAOROFL!!!! Al....you ALWAYS come out with ‘em! You never disappoint. ;-)
No problem! Thanks for trying to track it down, I appreciate it :)
They are indeed incorrect allegations.
You were such a cute kid, Opie.
LoL!
I highly recommend your reading “Galileo’s Daughter,” a most interesting, informative and readable tome; plus any one or more of several books that can inform you as to the Roman Curia’s treatment of Galileo.
The unanswerable question is: Why did supposed experts in the content and meaning of the collection of writings known as the Bible of Christendom believe that it was incumbent on them to proclaim and enforce any particular belief as to the movements and relative positions of the Sun and the planets? Was it not enough for them to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ? That is what the Bible does; its writers did not wander off into the thickets of astronomy. That would have been a confusion of their mission, just as it turned out to be for the Roman Curia.
its what i live for
Lame line Baehr. “Baehr concludes with this:

Are you saying Galileo wasn’t persecuted at all or for asserting the Earth orbits the Sun?
Do you have any sources?
