Russian Official: Iran, Russia – Regional Powers

The vice-president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russia said yesterday that Iran and Russia are the two leading regional countries that play an important role in ensuring stability in the region.

Georgy Petrov told IRNA that the two countries enjoy amicable cooperation that benefit the Caspian Sea littoral countries, the Caucasus, and the Central Asian states.

He said that the "Tehran-Moscow cooperation threatens no country," and added that gas cooperation between Iran and Russia is not only within the framework of mutual interests but also serves the interests of all gas consumers.

He also referred to the nuclear cooperation in the field of energy between the two countries for peaceful purposes.
