At first it made me angry, according to Jewish Law non-Jews are not supposed to attend Passover Seders and the President was hosting one. Then it became a Joke, "Do you know that when President Obama became the first President to host a Seder, it also was the first time that Pharaoh hosted a Seder?"
Today is Tax Day, Tea Party day as well as the 7th day of Passover the day Jews celebrate our final break with the Pharaoh's Oppression by crossing through the Reed Sea (not a typo, the Torah calls it Yam Suf, which means sea of reeds).
Allow me to suggest that the Image of President Obama as Pharaoh, and the Tea Parties that will take place throughout the country later today on the anniversary of the Israelites' throwing off the yoke of oppression are inextricably linked.
Each day it becomes clearer that our government is ignoring the Constitution of the United States of America and even worse they are ignoring the reason for the constitution

Screw the Obama followers, all of them are usefull idiots of Marxism and destroyers of all that love God, family and country and would raise children properly.

SPOT ON! Thanks for posting this one ... I’ve passed it along.
Do you have a cite for this? Are non-Jews restricted from others of our rituals? (Not where I go to be sure. Our Shabbat morning speaker this past week was a Christian pastor representing Christians United for Israel. He was great!)

Some passages from the book of Daniel come to mind...
(Full disclosure: I’m not Jewish, but even I took offense to That One’s play Seder!)
As we move closer to the final events that are written in “the Book”, the Christians and the Jews are more connected than at any time in history.
I know the consequences of seeking to destroy Israel. I have read the final chapter in the Christian “Book”, and understand enough to know what side I am on.

I’m Roman Catholic and I just celebrated my very first Seder with my Sunday school class in our church last week. The purpose was to instruct our children in the traditions of our “spiritual ancestors”, but it was also a genuine ritual of prayer.
The ritual was lead by our religious education director, so it was not led by a Jew, if that makes a difference. I’m not sure if this makes it an “official Seder”.
We have numerous mixed denominational marriages in our parish. In these situations the children are often raised Catholic, however they still observe and practice their Jewish faith ~in as much as I suppose they are able to. With the Jewish faith, it seems to work quite well from what I can see.
I will say that there were a few families who were confused by the fact that we celebrated a Seder; a few knowing this is a Jewish tradition had dubious “kneejerk” responses, saying “Seder was for Jews, not Catholics.”
No offense was meant by the prayer celebration and I think this may separate it from what Obama is doing, hence the fact that you may be angry. Personally, I do not even consider him to be a Christian and I take offense at his attempts to paint himself as such.
His pretense for such a service is probably a false one, in which case he is mocking Jews ~ and, for that matter, G-d.
Calm, please. Don’t blow your lid.

What you had was a model Seder. Not an “Official” Seder. the reason why non-Jews are not supposed to be at the Seder is two fold. First the Seder took the place of the Passover Sacrifice. The Torah says that non-Jews were not allowed to partake in the Passover sacrifice. The other reason the Rabbis give is that on Passover we are to re-live the time when God Took each one of US (the Jews) out of Egypt. This was a uniquely Jewish event.
Having a “model seder” at a Church is a Christian Ritual and does not interfere with any Jewish Law
Thanks for the info. I agree.
I don’t belive that our DREs were clear about the terminology; “official” or “model”. I’ll make sure that they are clear for next year.
Apparently, this is something of a modern custom that is emerging from our church and apparently from other Christian churches. I like incorporating the various senses into the prayer. The children enjoyed it, as well.
As a regular Dennis Prager listener, and on and off Medved listener, I do know a few things about Judaism.
and I agree with the metaphoric reference of Obama as Pharoah.
I think it is highly offensive!!
If you'd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

There's no ban on Christians attending Seders. Hosting one could be problematical since the "host" has no standing, but I presume Obama's Seder was led by a Jew.
