I call it Barack Obama's "Marie Antoinette moment."
Via Gateway Pundit:
Ouch!... 60 Minutes Reporter Asks Giggly Obama: "Are You Punch-Drunk?"
Steve Kroft from "60 Minutes" tore into a giggly Barack Obama during their interview that will air tonight. The Pro-Obama reporter asks the giggling president, "Are you punch-drunk?"
Ouch!
punch-drunk- suffering cerebral injury usually from many minute brain hemorrhages that is a result of repeated head blows received in boxing and is typically marked by mental confusion, incoordination, and slurred speech
The Politico reported, via Free Republic:
President Barack Obama said he believes the global financial system remains at risk of implosion with the failure of Citigroup or AIG, touching off an even more destructive recession and potentially depression. His remarks came in a 60 Minutes interview in which he was pressed by an incredulous Steve Kroft for laughing and chuckling several times while discussing the perilous state of the worlds economy.
You're sitting here. And you're you are laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems. Are people going to look at this and say, "I mean, he's sitting there just making jokes about money How do you deal with I mean: explain. . . Kroft asks at one point.
Are you punch drunk? Kroft says.
No, no. There's gotta be a little gallows humor to get you through the day, Obama says, with a laugh.
Maybe
The New York Post is right. Maybe the Golden Boy is cracking up?

I can't help but think back to the "terrible" interview that Sarah Palin had with Katie Couric. Sarah Palin's son Track departed for Iraq earlier the same day as the interview with Katie Couric. Was it fair to destroy her for not having her A-game during a day when she should clearly be forgiven for being distracted? And yet even Katie Couric didn't have to ask Sarah Palin if she was "punch drunk." Nor did she giggle like an idiot while being asked questions about the plunging economy and the suffering it was causing the American people.
At least the bad economy hasn't distracted from the cocktail parties that the Obamas are hosting at the White House every Wednesday night for connected liberals. Michlle Malkin notes that "this party atmosphere sends the wrong message."
Well, only if you think the president literally giggling over the terrible economy is "the wrong message." I guess it's kind of like that whole "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is," things.

It is rather bizarre, he seems very detatched from everything going on, and jokes about all of these challenges. It appears he likes being President, but little of the work that comes with the job (except the partying and travel and of course the continual campaigning)

It is rather bizarre, he seems very detatched from everything going on...When you look at recent threads about Geitner wanting to have more control over contracts and the ability to step in and manage companies, the recent House vote on Obama Youth Camps that goes before the Senate soon, the bill to tax AIG bonuses at 95% and other similar issues, they're on such a fast track that he may be feeling secure in the knowledge that he is now in control of America. So why should he show restraint? If we don't like it, let us eat cake...

It’s all he knows how to do; get in front of a crowd and receive adulation.
He has no clue what it means to be POTUS and is avoiding doing the work needed.
Opossum is the typical office goof-off that gets promoted.

I guess “gallows humor” depends on who is on the gallows.
The retirement, college, and other savings plans of tens of millions of us are now swinging on the gallows of this economy as the White House bolshevik central planners race daily to further their agenda by attenuating and worsening this crisis.
So excuse us for not laughing.

obommie-the-commie is a movie star president - adored by shallow fans and speaks the words someone else writes for him.

Give it time. I am sure within a week the media will report that Obama is just being cool under pressure.

Yeah, I have a feeling the communist executioners thought their “gallows humor” was a lot funnier than the Romanov family standing in front of the machine guns.

It’s kind of like Mich Jagger. The man is physically repulsive, but he became a sex symbol because the media told women that he was supposed to be one - and far be it from them to actually think for themselves and conclude, “But he’s a freaking gargoyle.”

Punch drunk with cauliflower ears. He’s on the ropes or he (rope-a-dope?). Soon he will be down for the count. Although, I’d prefer to see a citizen (can’t rely on the media) land a knockout punch in one of his controlled town halls. I’ll take a TKO, but a KO would be better.
