"Watchmen" is one of the most violent and dark movies ever. Is it possible to merchandise such a film? While it is a challenge, it IS possible! See for yourself in today's "Geeks On Caffeine" cartoon. NOTE: The author of this comic requests that you visit his web site and please refrain from copying the comic within this thread. Thank you very much!

Is it darker and more violent then those hostel and saw movies. I read about those on Plugged In Online and just reading about them turns you into a bad person.

I don’t think I’ve heard of this Watchmen movies. It sounds like I’ve made a good decision to boycott Hollywood and the like.

Actually, it’s a very good film. The violence serves a purpose (I know that’s a tired excuse for it, but in this film, trust me it’s necessary.). A great film! If you liked Gladiator, or 300, you’ll dig this film as well!

Well, my local Borders has a table with stacks of the graphic novel, the “making of” book, boxed action figures...no exploding heads with cherry-flavored blood, but maybe they just hadn’t got to it yet.

I read Psalm 1 enough times that it finally started to have meaning. So I don’t watch any of that filth anymore. Not because I think it’ll corrupt me, but because I’m already corrupt.

The “blood” is from China... they’re busy testing it for lead.

Excellent movie. Not quite what the graphic novel is, but Zack did about as good of a job on it as anyone could be expected to do. He certainly did a better job of Watchmen than the Wachowski's did with V for Vendetta.

My wife didn't like it. Too gory. Felt it detracted from what was going on.

And no... the gore and violence in this one cannot be accurately compared to movies like Saw or Hostel. In those movies, the gore is part of a horrific buildup and is pretty much the point of the movie. In Watchmen, it's just something that happens.

Not for the faint of heart. For certain...

Rorschach was easily the best character in the movie.
“Never compromise.”

It reminded me of a quote I read a while ago: “In a world of Good and Evil, to compromise always works to the advantage of Evil and the determent of Good.”

Dark is not how I would describe it. I’d call it 2hrs and 45 minutes of crap not to mention seeing a giant Flacid Blue Pecker hangin’ down.

If you were focused on that the whole movie, you only watched ten minutes of it and have other issues.

My girlfriend almost broke my thumb during the movie .. too much violence for her.
Saw it in IMAX - a great adaptation.. And a great story.
The theater I was in ( Tampa Fl)had all the people cheering and clapping when the your locked in with me line was spoken.

Love the psychiatrist ink blot test scene, of course as an engineer, my response is always — A BLOT OF INK ON A PIECE OF PAPER.

What is it with these dark scenes where it is basically impossible to tell who is who and is combined with incredible violence often being commited by supposedly LEO’s or the heros.

The Beast and the new Miami Vice fall in the above.

Isn't the movie just merchandising of the comic book?

There is also the Bluray disk "Watchmen: The Motion Comic" - quite excellent for those too lazy to read the comic. It's very good.

I can see now why a lot of people don’t like this movie though. It was pretty brutal to a lot of sacred cows as well as visually.
