A short week after signing into law the biggest spending bill in the history of the United States, Obama has turned his attention on cutting our deficits. Akin to an alcoholic saying he will no longer drink whiskey, while doubling up on vodka and beer.
His first line of business is to cut spending in Afghanistan & Iraq, ironic of course considering he just signed the deployment of 17,000 additional troops to Afghanistan. What exactly does he plan to cut? Going to send the soldiers over there without rifles? Russians did so in battle of Stalingrad, so there is SOME precedent. Withdrawal from Iraq has been promised to take place within 16 months, but rumors are swirling that this timeline might be extended.
So how else does Obama plan to "get exploding deficits under control"? First in line, are the Bush tax cuts which contrary to popular belief save everyone money as they reduce tax rates across all brackets, these will expire in 2010 and 2011. As of now Obama promises to keep the middle class brackets the same,

Bari the Kenyan printed trillions to payback those who got him “elected” and now he wants US to bail HIM out. This is BULLSh**!
I am still waiting for another Boston tea party, its becoming more likely that only a revolt can stop this madness.
Ri-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ight.
As of now. When exactly does "now" end?
Also, under his definition, “wealthy” will include most if not all of the middle class.
ANYONE who’s on the timeclock 40 or more hours/week.
Just a quick question. Didn’t the wealthy get him elected? Weren’t wall st., Bill Gates, Hollywierd, George Soros, and I am sure tons of other super wealthy contribute to his campaign to get the very poor to vote in droves for him? I am lower middle class, probably working poor at this point. I make less than 50,000 per year for a family of 4. Why shouldn’t those who financed his campaign get soaked to give to the very poor? I am tired of fighting it. they will just avoid paying the taxes with their fancy tax loopholes, the money will just keep getting printed until it all collapses. Whats the difference at this point. I am a total conservative, who desperately loves her country, but I think it is to a point where I think about a story I remember hearing. The Isrealites were complaining about having to eat manna all the time. They wanted meat. They complained night and day about the meat. God grew weary of their constant complaining, and said fine, you want meat, I ‘ll give you meat! There was so much it rotted and stank, and made many sick and die. They repented for their request. I think we are there with this mess. They want all this entitlement spending? They think they can finance it, FINE let them have it. Do all you can to avoid making money to owe taxes. If you qualify for ANY govt program, apply for it. Get it. take it. lets end this already so those who did not beat their guns into plowshares can control again those who did and we can rebuild it from the ground up.......
.... and few of the truly wealthy.
The Federal Government does not tax the wealth of the wealthy. It taxes the incomes of the producers of income.
Teresa Heinz and John Kerry BOTH married into the same $500 million fortune and they have never paid a single dollar in Federal taxes on that $500 million.
There. It's fixed.
Well, for one thing, the people you mentioned won't get taxed on their wealth.
See Post 10.
The year that John Kerry ran for President, I paid more income taxes than John Kerry did and he was sitting on a $500 million fortune and riding around in an $800,000 pleasure boat that Teresa bought him with her dead first husband's money.
The one who will be "soaked" is me and I did not vote for Obama.
The truly wealthy advocate higher taxes on current income producers to avoid taxes on the huge amount of accumulated wealth they already have.
Your solution sounds as reasonable as any other I have read.
The Fact is The American People Voted this crew into Power and that is it ,Deal with It.
Now I know the game is rigged but so is everything else ,there are no Guarantees in Life you work your hardest and take your chances.
Unless we go the way of the Muslims we deal with it witin the system ,this whole situation just gives me that much more respect for our Founding Fathers who Pledged their lives their fortunes and their Sacred Honor when they Put their Signatures on the Declaration Of Independence ,a document at the time that made them all Traitors.
That's exactly what I believe too. NOW---what can we, and our Republican leaders do to stop his BS?
War on achievers.
I get your issue. That is why I said it is our duty as americans to earn as little as possible and get anything we can qualify for in these govt programs. They are counting on this tax base ( above me, but below the very wealthy) to pay for it. You unfortunately fall into that bracket.
There is no other way to close them down but to bankrupt them and allow them to be overthrown by the very people who put them into office when the promises they made, cant be kept. I know this will hurt many people like you, and that is my worst pain. I am opposed to any income tax, I prefer a consumption tax like the fair tax. I think the only way to achieve that is to make income tax untenable. I am open to suggestions from this income bracket as to what might work better?
Don't feel too sorry for me, once the Obama tax hike takes effect, I will slow down and smell more roses and not earn one dollar above what he considers "wealthy" income.
I am opposed to any income tax, I prefer a consumption tax like the fair tax.
The problem is that, for essentials, your taxes will increase. I will do great (I'm a big saver) but you won't since we all need to spend a certain minimum on essentials.
The problem I have with the Fair Tax is that, for a big saver like me, I will have been taxed WHEN I earned my savings and then taxed AGAIN when I spend my savings after the Fair Tax takes effect. Pre-Fair Tax savings need to be protected from double-taxation.
I think the only way to achieve that is to make income tax untenable. I am open to suggestions from this income bracket as to what might work better?
One suggestion would be to reconsider the top income tax bracket that some CEO with a $20 million bonus and a Hollywood star and a sports star and I share.
How could it possible be fair for me to be in the same tax bracket as Alex Rodriguez and Madonna for every dollar we earn in the Fall of each year?
Why not lower the tax rate for the businessman that makes $350,000 per year by working 65 hour weeks while significantly raising the top tax bracket for the CEO and the Hollywood star that get $20 million checks thrown at them?
I am no tax guru by any means. I still think that punishing earners is worse. I still think the fair tax is a better way to go, and maybe an exemption or a tax rebate based on what you have already paid in income taxes for the year it was implemented would be in order? It should only effect the year of turnover to the fair tax I would think? No?
I still think that increasing myself based on my choices to consume is better than the uber rich just opting out of taxes altoghether. I also have alternatives they would never think of doing, like buying used items such as cars, goodwill items, and many other things. I already do this so it will be no change to me except they wont be able to tax those items anymore (they do right now) so it will balance out. Same with housing, only new. I will end up paying on essentials, maybe, depending on how they structure it. There may be exemptions for the lower income levels on essentials (again, a prebate-it would be offset). Pretty interesting stuff, and above all, even if it actually cost me more, I feel, if we have to have any form of taxation, I feel consumption tax is a truer free market type. While I am not rich,I, like everyone else hope to be one day. I respect the Capitalist/free market system, and and I feel that our current income tax system is rigged to harm the poor and middle class, while allowing the rich to shirk their duty. Consumption tax evens that all out IMHO....to borrow a line, “Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good”......
That is a very good response, I will just add that the wealthy who support Obama AND have incomes just don’t care.
Hollywood for example is a perfect example of elitists who make so much bloody money that after they get bored with binging on all excesses of life feel that they need to elect a liberal to feel good about themselves. When some of them make 10million a picture, few % here and there just make no difference to them.
