[31 Jan 2009] by Steve Sailer ABC News has learned through San Bernardino Superior Court Records that the 33-year-old California woman, whose name is Nadya Doud or Nadya Suleman (she filed to have her name changed to Nadya Suleman in 2001-though it was not clear if the request was granted), divorced her husband, Marcos Gutierrez, in January 2008. Okay, "Doud" is both a British name (e.g., Ike's mother-in-law) and an Arab name. http://blog.vdare.com/archives/2009/01/31/immigrant-has-illegitimate-octuplets-who-are-these-people/

MSM over hype. Just sick of this story.
Focus on this disgusting woman helps keep focus away from the mess of Obama’s cabinet choices and his handling of the Census, etc.
There is no way she can parent 14 kids under the age of 7 in any meaningful manner... and her own mother has been very vocal with how unhappy she is about this and not wanting to be stuck raising her daughters kids... I watch Jon & Kate plus 8 and with two parents and many helpers they really struggled the first three years.
Meanwhile, one report said the sperm donor used on all the kids is a man named David Solomon, who is listed on birth records for Nadya's four oldest children.
I've read she used his sperm for all of her babies but who knows...
On the tv interview the other night, she said she didn’t. They also reported that only ONE child had special needs—he has autism, IIRC.
Seems like the facts on this story keep changing with every article! FWIW, I don’t agree with what she did, by any means.
I don’t want to see everyone who goes through IVF to have a family be discriminated against because of her actions though.
(If you can’t tell, I only achieved motherhood through the grace of God and a wonderful fertility specialist and 6 IVFs which are truth be told, crapshoots, because there’s NO guarantees of a live child after going through IVF!)
NO child comes into existence without the blessing of God’s hand—NONE. Just to get that out there.
Secondly, she obviously is obsessed with being pregnant and having children—I get that having been in sort of a similar place over the past 15 years in trying to have my family...not that I approve of her doctor or her choices! But do we actually have the right to tell people how many children they are allowed to have? Who gets to approve which people get to procreate, and who doesn’t? Having IVF does not guarantee a positive outcome-in fact, statistically, something like 97 or 98% of successful IVFs end up with a singleton only, something like 1.something% have twins, and then less than 1 percent are higher order multiples like this. Of course the more embryos that are transferred, the more chances that the outcome will be at least ONE pregnancy—kind of like playing in Vegas—the more quarters you put in a one-armed bandit, the more chances you have of winning the jackpot. This lady could not have predicted in any way that all six embryos transferred would take, or that two of them would split into twins (or one into triplets, twins more likely though)—to me, the hand of God does that, and He does NOT make ‘mistakes’—they have been put on this planet for a reason—what that reason is? I don’t know. But He does.
Yes, He did, and also for John Walsh’s child. We would not have his wonderful crime fighting success if his child had not been so viciously murdered, and how many more innocent lives were saves because of the terrible loss he and his wife suffered??
God can see the ‘big picture’. We can’t. We can only ‘guesstimate’ at what the future holds.
God didn’t make them, the mother and doctor did. She ain’t gonna marry a millionaire.
What if that woman is rich and capable of taking excellent care of all of those babies, perhaps she is in excellent health and the babies are too? What is the ‘bad’ thing in your statement? Her age? The 4 babies? Who’s to say that she underwent IVF and only had 2 embryos transferred and they both split?
(Speaking as a 47 year old IVF patient who just had twins last July)
I call BS on your statement! Only God can create life, unless you are a Darwin worshipper and feel that mankind is on an even keel with God??
The mother had eggs. The father had sperm. The doctor had a petri dish and an incubation chamber. Doctor mixed eggs and sperm together to see what would happen (again, doctors have NO control over how many eggs fertilize or what the quality of those embryos will be)—then the best embryos (general rule is no more than 1 or 2 for younger women, 2 or 3 for older women) are transferred to her womb a few days later—then its 10 days of waiting and praying for a positive pregnancy test. So your statement is wrong on all counts, thank you very much.
She lied, which, I think, isn’t that surprising. Her publicist stated that her viewpoints as to what qualifies as welfare is perhaps different from others. How she’s paying for this publicist, though, is yet another question that has yet to be answered.
The woman was 49 and it is 5 babies. The doctor implanted 7 in her... Twins is one thing, 5 at age 49 is another. A local woman — who is young and in excellent health had quads last year and nearly died in delivery... it has to do with the volumn of blood required to nourish that many babies and how it affects the body when they deliver... oh, and this 49 year old woman pregnant with quads is now a resident for the next three months of County USC Medical Center and Medi-Cal insurance.
Quadruplets is 4 babies, not 5 (quints)...and we don’t know the history of this woman. The older the mother, the lower the chance of a successful singleton pregnancy (unless donor eggs or embryos have been used, then chances are a bit higher) In my case, we only had 2 embryos which we transferred, but at my ‘advanced maternal age’if we’d had more my doctor would have transferred 3 or 4 (with my daughter’s singleton pregnancy back then (38) I had 4 because we originally only had 3 fertilize, then one ‘caught up’ at the last minute, but the high expenses and low chances for a successful cryo storage for 1 embryo let us convince him to go ahead with all 4—the alternative was letting that embryo die naturally out of my body, and we didn’t want to do that-)—
anyway, this has opened the door to the ethics involved and the need for some regulation but you can’t just say 1 embryo transferred only because each patient’s situation is different and the experience of the doctor is vital in determining the potential odds in trying to achieve a successful SINGLETON pregnancy (the saying is that any doctor who has a bunch of triplets and higher multiples to his credit is a BAD doctor—and this doctor of Nadya’s looks to be the poster child for bad REs!!
Pet peeve: in fertility treatment, the doctor simply transfers embryo/s from a petri dish into a woman’s uterus via a catheter during a very simple procedure—then, God willing and the creek don’t rise, one of those embryos will implant in the woman’s endometrial lining of her uterus—the doctor has absolutely NOTHING to do with and is unable to ‘force’ an embryo to implant. So when people say ‘the doctor implanted’ embryos, that’s technically not true. He put back the embryos (like scattering seeds in the garden without digging holes for them)—God determines which ones flourish, not the doctors. It’s literally a crapshoot like Las Vegas! You can know the odds and little tips and secrets for winning, but there’s no guarantees whatsoever of success.
Medi-Cal doesn’t pay for the IVF, but they have to pay for the maternity care that follows when the mothers have no insurance and the baby care while they are in the hospital... I honestly do not think the State of California or any other state should have to foot the bill for these women and their babies.
I love children but I feel this woman by her actions & kooky behavior isn't going to be able to support nor parent these 14 young children. I think it is wrong, plain & simple.
You are correct to a point—the state, taxpayers, etc. should not be liable for these babies. That should be left to people choosing to help her/the babies of their own free will (church, donors, etc.) When a doctor knowingly and willingly allows a patient to put his or her life at risk (and Nadya could have died from complications from this octuplet pregnancy, easily) then he needs to account for his actions before his peers in the medical community (and in this doctor’s case, probably lose his license). Nadya, having NO fertility problems from what I understand and who used IVF to feed her obvious obsession, definitely needs counseling/therapy/intervention for her ‘addiction’ to pregnancy, that is abundantly clear. What I object to is painting a broad brush across every person who needs IVF and talking about banning it, harshly regulating it, etc. An analogy for fertility treatment is something like this. Every day millions of people travel on planes from one part of the world to another. NOTHING happens to them. Humdrum, they go about their business and life goes on. That is the way successful fertility treatments work—the vast majority of successes result in a SINGLE baby. Just ONE!! But do you ever hear this fact mentioned in the news or the tabloids?! Nope. When a plane crashes you hear about it because it is spectacular and exciting and scary and riveting, whether it has happened on purpose (terrorists flying them into buildings) or accident (bird strike over the Hudson)...sometimes there’s a happy ending after a crash—many times there isn’t. With fertility treatment that results in higher order multiples (VERY RARE in reality, but the MSM makes it seem like these happen all the time) the majority of babies die and don’t make it if the parents choose to keep all of them and refuse selective reduction (euphemism for aborting some of the living babies to give remainder better chances of survival, and even then the remainder stand a higher chance of not surviving)—and then there are those who DO survive, like Nadya’s children, which is a miracle in itself, regardless of how she conceived, and the MSM and the public finds it spectacular and exciting and scary and riveting to watch from the sidelines. Now, because a single plane crashes, should the entire industry be shut down? No. Should there be limits of only one plane flight a day, or only one flight per year per person, or other random regulations applied to each and every person interested in flying? No! Each situation is different, and some people will never fly, while others will need help getting from place to place much more frequently.
IMO (and that’s all it is, take it with a grain of salt) is that fertility treatment and IVF should be treated the same way. Yes, there should be more regulations, but not so harsh that a doctor’s sound judgment isn’t overruled and the effort to help someone have a child becomes moot.
Her parents are named Edward and Angela. Her children have Christian names. People ought to give it a rest on this "She's breeding future Jihadis!" crap. It really looks foolish.
Nadya Suleman is doing many things wrong but it doesn't appear that instilling the fervor of Islamic extremism in her children is one of them.
And, as if it needs to be said, there are millions or Arab Christians.
Thank you.
I stand corrected.
