Take someone with too much time on their hands and a ridiculously moralistic and self-righteous worldview, combine that with activist government and what do you get? A city that bans smoking in your own home, that's what. One California town has taken misguided activist government to a new place - private residences...

I heard part of a MSM morning show a few weeks back where an 'expert' stated that smokers should remove their clothing before coming into contact with children because of the residue.
Why not just put all chiiiildren in a plastic bubble and feed them through a tube until they reach the age of 21? Same difference.
They won't be able to smell the daisies or breathe spring air...but they'll be saaaafe!

I'm not surprised by this. As an apartment renter, more and more leases contain "no smoking" clauses where violation could result in eviction and/or loss of deposit. My current apartment bans smoking on the property. This policy actually made it easier for me to both quit smoking and quit paying tobacco taxes.
My neighbor violates the policy and every time he lights up a cigarette I can smell it. It doesn't bother me. I actually miss the smell of cigarettes! Some of my neighbors aren't happy about this and have complained to the landlord. He can't afford to evict him though as half the units are currently unoccupied.

Nanny State ping..............
It’s one thing when the building owner/landlord make this decision, it is an entirely different matter when the government does it.

We manage a duplex for a couple of out-of-state friends.
In recent years, I've noticed "no smokers" appearing in many of the ads for rentals.
We've never had trouble finding good quality tenants, as we don't have this restriction.
Allowing smoking also seems to extend the length of the tenancy since normal people seem to appreciate not being treated like crap because they happen to smoke.

Don’t know where you are, but here in VA you pretty much have to paint between tenents, anyway.

Ah, but this would mean a presumption that private property can't be redefined as "public" at the whim of the Nanny State.
Look, they're inviting the public to rent the unit! Voila - it's public property!

I told her not to worry since there neighborhood (they have lived there since the 1950s) is so heavily populated with non speaking hispanics and possibly of the illegal alien mode that no one will dare snitch on them.THAT won't stop them........Why would it?
Heck....they'd probably be rewarded with full citizenship...after turning in your evil environmental law-breaking Grandparents.........

In Maine.
The apartments are thoroughly cleaned and painted when a tenancy ends.
Of course, I've seen nico-nazis here claim that they can smell smoke in a freshly cleaned and painted apartment.
This makes them practically insane, but there you go.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Obama will surely see to it that individual freedom and choice will be squelched. We are losing this country as we speak. Wake up America. Times have changed.Let's not just blame this on Obama. The real problem is that both parties are rapidly infringing on our liberty.
We have become a one-party, Statist system. The two main segments of the Statist party (dem and republican) maintain their cosmetic differences to keep us from throwing ALL the bums out and establishing a viable, pro-liberty third party.

Not to mention our Governor just put a freeze on State Tax Refunds for those who overpaid their taxes. Funds for services take precedence over tax refunds.... I love this State!!!! /s
