Bishop promises un-Christian prayer

What did you expect of the un-Christian clergyman?

Bishop Robinson said he had been reading inaugural prayers through history and was "horrified" at how “specifically and aggressively Christian they were.”
"I am very clear," he said, "that this will not be a Christian prayer, and I won't be quoting Scripture or anything like that. The texts that I hold as sacred are not sacred texts for all Americans, and I want all people to feel that this is their prayer."
Bishop Robinson said he might address the prayer to "the God of our many understandings," language that he said he learned from the 12-step program he attended for his alcohol addiction.
Way to go, Vicki Gene.

> He is a bishop in the Episcopal Church USA—our part of the Anglicans. Robinson’s elevation to bishop is a significant part of why some of the more “traditional” American Episcopal dioceses are splitting from the ECUSA and joining Anglican dioceses in Africa, run by conservative, Bible-believing clergy.

Sounds a bit like The United Church of Canada, which is really only a “church” in name, IMO.

Definitely, all the non-Christians in our country should not be included in any prayers.

Amen!

The Episcopal Church USA has transformed into a universal progressive humanist form of religion.

My family and I left three years ago.

We now worship in a conservative Anglican church that holds God’s word as sacred.

May the God of “many understandings” reward you as you deserve, bishop Robinson.

Grant us the wisdom to manipulate our peers.
Grant us the longevity to reap the spoils.
By Thor’s bottomless tankard,

I’m not so sure how well that’ll go over.

Yeah. I would have thought that if you were a Bishop of a Christian church, you box your corner. Just like a Rabbi would, just like an Imam would. If you’re giving the prayer, your God is the one being invoked: He carries the day and everybody elses god doesn’t.

How is God going to feel about this? Did He not specifically tell us “thou shalt have NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME”? What part of that does this Bishop not understand?

I shouldn’t want to be that Bishop when God decides to settle scores on this. We are also told that He is a jealous God. That doesn’t bode too well for Inclusion.

A number of the “mainline” American Protestant denominations—the Episcopal Church USA, the Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, among others—have been sliding away from traditional Christian teaching, and politically leftward, for many many years. (Some, like the Congregationals, have already been there.) Along the way, these denominations are losing hundreds of thousands of worshippers, and even entire churches or dioceses are splitting off to find new and more traditionally Bible-based denominations. Conservative Presbyterian groups like the Presbyterian Church in America and the Orthodox Presbyterian Church, for example, are both growing. There’s also a rising number of “non-denominational” churches; my wife and I attend one here in Durham that’s not affiliated with any larger group, but doctrinally is fairly close to the Southern Baptists.

I’d tell him to go F himself, but if he could, considering his inclination, he likely would. This guy has turned into a one man wrecking crew for the Episcopal church in America.

Will he replace “Our Father which art in heaven” with “To whom it may concern”?

A gay bishop that dislikes Christian prayer and likes to imbibe a great deal.

I actually wonder if he is a real priest or not.

I seem to recall something about “acknowledging and disowning Him before men,” but I’m not a noted cleric like VG, so what do I know....

"If you disown me before men, I will disown you before the Father..."

It just make sense that Obama would choose the poofter bishop who more than anyone else is the symbol of the destruction of the Anglican / Episcopal church.

Look for more symbols of all kinds of destruction in the days ahead.

I often wonder if a loving God above us watches what we do and shakes his head in disbelief or sobs at the gift that has been squandered?
