Palin may speak at conservative conference

Gov. Sarah Palin's next act on the national stage could come as early as February, at a major conservative convention in Washington, D.C.

The annual event is called the Conservative Political Action Conference, and Palin was supposed to be the keynote speaker last February, long before she became a household name as the Republican choice for vice president.

When Palin couldn't make it, Vice President Dick Cheney took her place.

The convention isn't affiliated with the Republican Party, but big-name Republicans make a point of stopping by. It's where presidential candidate Mitt Romney conceded to John McCain this year, and where McCain drew boos from self-described "Reagan conservatives" – and national headlines – when he talked about immigration.

What was Palin doing that she couldn’t make it last year, considering that she was still relatively unknown and it was a big opportunity?

Lets hope Gov Palin has a positive impact. CPAC has lost some of its luster since the days of Reagan.

Its been infested with neo-cons and pseudo-cons. Phony baloney BS artists like Romney and Giuliani.

I can’t wait to hear what Sarah has to say. She will bring back TRUE Conservatism back to the Republican Party. That is why liberals fear her, they feared Reagan, they fear Palin

One thing I know is that she was pregnant. Might have had something to do with it.

thats the first i ever heard she was supposed to be even be there last year, let alone be the keynote speaker.

I followed here fairly closely and I probably would have remembered something like that seeing as how being the keynote speaker at the most important conservative gathering of the year would be a pretty big deal. Especially for someone who no one had ever heard of up to that point.

And Dick Cheney is the backup plan? That’s like saying we couldn’t some local bar band to play our party so we had resort to plan B and called in Pink Floyd. Highly unlikely.

Something about that doesn’t sound right. Either the writer got confused, and misunderstood that she was supposed to attend last year, and will be the keynote speaker this year(which makes way more sense), or he’s just stirring up trouble and trying to make her look bad back home by insinuating tha tshe was always angling and scheming for power and national profile and just couldnt wait to ditch Alaska. And he gets to compare her to Cheney with that not so subtle dig.

I love how they claim she’s leaving home. The one meeting was the RGA meeting which she would have been at even if she hadn’t been the vP as all Republicans Govs were there. The 2nd was the Obama Gov summit in Philly. Does anyone think she’d really ditch the summit called by the President-elect, especially when she was the VP nominee? Imagine thos eheadlines. Obama reaches out to Governors to help economy, Palin tells him to go f himself and stays home. The Chambliss stumping was done on that same trip and was specifically asked for by the candidate and the party. Plenty of other GOP figures showed up and again, if she has any future aspirations it wouldn’t have been a smart move to stiff the GOP in GA one if its few remaining strongholds and the South in general. GA borders SC after all.

I think she will be at CPAC. It’s usually scheduled at the same time as the annual Governor’s meeting in DC so she should be there anyway.

Wise move. Now if only Palin would do the same.

I was told the debate right now is how it will be financed. I guess she knows if she charges the state the ADN will manufacture another scandal and then some dork will file an ethics complaint.

Palin tells him to go f himself and stays home.

The Governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, did just that.

It’s an AP story which originated at the ADN (Anti-Palin Daily Negative), so read it with a pound of salt.

Alaska Dems say that it’s not good enough for Palin to go to CPAC and conduct biz back home via Blackberry, but they don’t explain why not.

That old double standard. According to the Dems, The One can be a stranger to the Senate for two years while he runs for prez, but Palin can’t go to CPAC for four days during a legislative session without Alaska falling apart.

Go figure.

Well, again, no one knows who Lingle is who it’s really no big deal. If Lingle had just run for 2 months against Obama and was the highest profile politician in the country and then she did something like that it might have been a bit bigger story.

Justified or not, Palin is a de facto leader of the party. She’s the highest profile and most famous elected leader(well, her or Arnold) and if she makes a pronouncement it’s instant news. So, I think when the President-elect calls a special summit of the nation’s Governors to address the economy in a bi-partisan way, it’s virtually obligatory for her to attend. Especially so soon after the election.

Also, Lingle lives in Hawaii and if I was her I wouldn’t exactly be clamoring to head east in December, either.

If you lived in Wasilla where the last report I saw had it at 20 below and in darkness for most of the day, you’d probably want to get away if you could.

“pseudo-cons”

Hey—that’s my term! I dodn’t think you’re applying it to the group that I intended, though.
