McCain's "win-win-win" Debate Situation. (VANITY)
This guy

Posted on 09/24/2008 4:56:56 PM PDT by mike182d

With the dust still settling from McCain's surprise announcement to cease his campaign to return to the Senate, it occured to me how brilliant this move is.

Predictably, Obama said "no" because he's the master of debating and will not take orders from McCain and, for McCain's part, he's criticized for using a "gimmick" to avoid having to debate Obama.

There was an article two days ago (forgive my poor memory in identifying it) commenting on how it is customary for debates to be that single moment in politics when one candidate lauds the abilities of the other while downplaying their own. People expect this, so the words of the candidates do little to actually affect the public's perception of how they will fare in the debate. John McCain has changed the game:

Just like predicting the media's all-out savage attack on Palin when she was announced - which boosted Palin's ratings and popularity when everyone was driven to watch her at the convention out of curiosity, he has secured the same fate for himself, should he show up at the debates. The media will continue to pound on the McCain-is-afraid theme, which will again entice a majority of the American public to tune in out of curiosity - like waiting for a train to crash.

This will cause an increase in viewship, lower expectations of McCain, solidify public perception of Obama as "master debater", and, should catapult McCain through the roof should he win.

It will be like the response to the Saddleback forum, multiplied ten-fold.

In the words of Michael Scott: Win-Win-Win

I agree providing he shows up.

What is crazy is that this is a foreign policy debate. One wonders if the moderator will somehow tie foreign policy to this crisis...after all it is a Global Economy.

I hope McCain is prepped for that.

PALIN SHOULD FILL IN FOR MCCAIN AT THE DEBATE

Palin is the potential vice-president for McCain.

Palin should fill in for McCain at the debate; while McCain works on the economic issues.

Did you notice McCain said he’d suspend AFTER speaking to Bill Clinton’s Global Initiative Conference? How come he’s there and Mr. International (Obama) is not?

Was Obama NOT invited? Invited, but declined? On the eve of what was to be the International Security debate, this is a poke in the eye to the Obama campaign.

Those Clintons are wiley ones, and I’ll bet at the Obama/Bent-One meeting in Harlem last week, Obama refused to take Hillary as a substitute VP and, furthermore, refused to help out with Hillary’s campaign debt.

Old Bill told Larry King last night, in addition to postponing any Obama campaigning until after his Conference, he’d also honor the Jews by postponing any campaign activities until after Yom Kippur.

And you haven’t seen Hillary out on the hustings, have you?

I agree and thought the same thing.
McCain will keep them guessing if he’s showing up until the last minute, and then when he does, it’s going to be a huge event.

And the topic is foreign policy.

But the real coup for McCain will be if he manages to swoop in and take the lead for the GOP in renegotiating a totally new plan that outlaws all standing Credit Default Swaps retroactively, rescinds Sarbanes-Oxley, and trust-busts some of these huge companies like AIG that have become “too big to fail.”

I think this was a pre-emptive strike. It was likely Obama would claim he couldn’t debate in order to go back to the Senate and participate in the bailout discussions. Obama is afraid to debate McCain. It would have made Obama look like he was putting the country before politics.

I agree providing he shows up.

This could be his 4th win...He goes to Washington and returns just for the debate.

He has the right priorities, the right timing and he has fulfilled his duties as a senator.

My prediction is McCain heads to D.C. tomorrow and starts working with the Senate to craft a plan. Negotiations continue into Friday and at the last possible minute he hops a plane to Oxford for the debate. No deal is completed by the time he leaves. McCain does the debate and then hops a plane back to D.C. and an agreement is reached on Saturday or Sunday. In the mean time Obama does interviews on Friday night and campaigns on Saturday and Sunday, looking completely out of touch. Republicans push for McCain to be their spokesman on the agreement and he looks like he is in charge while the Democrats whine that it is political posturing.AWB

Dick Morris (not that what he says is usually right)is on BOR now and he thinks what McCain did was brilliant. He said he thinks that McCain will be viewed as the hero because he will get this done and deliver the republicans-—he thinks they will all benefit and that Obama blew it especially when saying they could call him...lol

Only one candidate is fighting for America. One is hiding from his guilt in this failure.

Interesting convoluted thinking. But the simple reality is John McCain is once again putting COUNTRY FIRST in time of crisis, whereas Barry Obama is doing his usual lazy thing ... ‘Call me if you need me, I’m busy running for a promotion for me me me, Harry.’
