Please help me answer this person who is a paid Obama hack. I have made a pooint to answer most posts on our local papaer so this person does not have the only voice but have had trouble answering this one. Also kcross, I've asked you a number of times over the past few days to give us some examples of conservative republican successes over the past 7 years, and you ALWAYS avoid the answer. I'm sure someone of your ability to find information should be able to come up with one. Come kcross, give it up, give the McCain backers something to hang their hat on, please.

What can the Democrats point to in “improving” the economy since they took control of Congress? Can we compare the numbers?

Compare unemployment rates, gdp growth rates (hell, even gas prices) to european countries.

Cant remember the author, but this was written about a couple of weeks ago in the WSJ.

Start with what a great idea having a continious deficit trade with China has been.

conservative republican successes over the past 7 years

I can give you a lot of 'Republican' accomplishments, but they aren't always Conservative Republican accomplishments. The challenge with this question is most Republicans in charge act like Democrats on a lot of things. The Education bill was written in part by Teddy Kennedy, for example. All the complaints folks have now is because Republicans aren't acting like Conservatives.

One trick I've used with similar folks is, I list the economic numbers from 1999 (GDP, Growth, Average Income, Unemployment, etc), then I say, look at Bush's economy. They will jump saying the numbers are horrible, the worst economy in the past 50 years.. Then I point out those are Clinton's numbers, not Bush's. The economic numbers are almost identical between the two administrations, even though we have seen a lot more challenges lately.

The obvious one is the Bush tax cuts which spurred the economy for 6 years. The fastest way to recession is to repeal them. Even Obama admits that.

Congress has oversight of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, not the president. Congress created the Community Reinvestment Act specifically to bully banks into giving loans to people who could not afford them. Chris Dodd and Obama, both ‘Rats, received well over $100,000 in “campaign contributions” from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, littered with Clinton appointees to this day, while lying about their earnings in order to hand out multi-million dollar bonuses to those very same Clinton appointees. Chris Dodd, has studiously ignored any criticism of the way things have been done because he is getting bribes and sweetheart deals from them.

In 1995 the Repubs took over Congress. The stock market ZOOMED. 38 percent that year.

Go to Google Finance Graph and see.

IN 2006 the dumborats took over and look what has happened.

At least Republicans cut tax rates, their spending spree isn’t much different than Democrats

I've asked you a number of times over the past few days to give us some examples of conservative republican successes over the past 7 years, and you ALWAYS avoid the answer.

The first thing you need to do is read some economics. I suggest 'Basic Economics' by Thomas Sowell. The fact is that the ups and downs of the business cycle have relatively little to do with presidents, no matter how much we want to make elections a referendum on the economy. The fact is that I suspect your liberal opponent is correct: as a general rule the economy has done better under Democrats (Carter being a noteable exception). But correlation is not causation.

If you really want to compare liberal and conservative economics you need to compare Europe and the US. Two good books for that are 'The Power of Productivity' and 'Cowboy Capitalism.'

Start with what a great idea having a continious deficit trade with China has been.

Tell me about it. I've been running a continuous trade deficit with my local grocery store for years. I can't get the damn store to buy anything from me no matter how many groceries I buy from them. If I could produce my own food cheaper than I can buy it from the store I would end that trade deficit with the grocery store today.

- 2003 tax cuts pulled the USA from the 2001 recession and rose federal revenue by 47% from 2003 to 2006, 1.7$ trillion to $2.5 trillion.

- 2003 tax cuts lowered federal income tax rates for everyone. We all keep more of our paycheck than if we were under the 2000 tax codes.

- Toppled two of the most brutal regimes on Earth: Taliban & Hussein regime.

- Established democracries where two of the most brutal regimes once existed.

- Had GDP growth up to almost 8%, low unemployment, low food prices, and low energy prices... until the Democrats won control of both Houses of Congress.

Republican successes under GWB: War in Iraq, War in Afghanistan, Homeland Security, suppression of International Terrorism, economic prosperity until 2007 (when Democrats gained control of Congress), progress against North Korea's nuclear program, various domestic programs.

That should hold hack-boy for a while.
