The USA Today/Gallup poll completed on September 7 has the McCain/Palin ticket holding a 10 point lead over Obama/Biden.
[Polling data can be found in original post]
This represents the first time McCain has led Obama by a double-digit margin since january, 2007. It also represents a 17 point swing in McCain's favor since the last USAT/Gallup poll completed on August 31 and the first time McCain has led Obama in the RealClearPolitics average since April.
Expect the panic in the Obama camp to spread accordingly.

Plane just landed at Hook Field outside Dayton at 10:18 EDT---Gov. Palin?
Either that, or a lousy FReeper troll. :)
The message of the McCain campaign has always been DRILL HERE, Drill Now.
Governor Palin of Alaska was his first and biggest advocate of drilling for more oil, especially in her home state of Alaska.
That's why he picked her: to stay on message.
And it's working.
McCain is *not* making this election all about Obama. Obama's religion is off of the table for instance.
McCain has his Drill Here theme...0bama's lack of experience comes in a distant 2nd to anyone listening to McCain's actual words.
Other than that, what's making news is the blowback against the news media for going after Governor Palin's personal life...which even 0bama wants stopped (officially).
Only if someone told her to change. She wouldn't think an original thought on her own.
Well said.
Eleanor Clift’s been sucking on the same lemon for 20 years.
Don't get too confident everyone...remember who's stacking the deck everytime a poll is taken...and it's not our "friends".
Next move by MSM is to re-position NObama as another comeback kid, fighter, etc.
Don't automatically believe those polls yet. Either way.
Definitely one of the best times I have ever had on FR. Pure excitement that McCain was going to deliver a Conservative to us! Especially when it seemed that it would be Lieberman, which would have killed the deal!
Do you think that he will ask Hillary, and if so, do you think that she would accept?
LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too funny! And too true!!!!
And the more they attack Palin, the more the McCain/Palin ticket goes up in the polls.
Obama is old news and as a political candidate he peaked way too early. His campaign has gone on too long enough and people have found out what he really stands for. And it’s not his brand of government that the American people are willing to pay for.
The only thing he’s famous for is being famous.
Ooh good to know. I googled this and found a story on how Gallup has been polling cellphones lately. Excellent.
Team McCain has done a great job; humor, jabbing at team donkey (aka team jackass),veep choice, securing the base and moving towards the middle, and he even has me rooting for him even though I was skeptical.
I'm just taking these last 60 days one day at a time and not I'll try not to flip when the campaign hits a bump in the road.
Oh, and I wonder what sort of rumor the press / dem operatives will try derail the campaign with at the last minute.
My only big concern at this point; will Maverick/Barracuda have coattails? If they do, will it be squandered, again?
Nite all and God bless.
“Does anyone else smell TOAST?”
I smell FRENCH TOAST.
It is still scary because McCain came so close to picking Lieberman instead. Amazing.
Karl Rove called up McCain and Lieberman and told them to back off . . . that is one of the reasons that he picked Palin.
"Someone tag that DU poster or put a radio collar on it... it may be the endangered lib mutation whose recessive profanity gene hasnt been reinforced with inbreeding but is overwritten by a single-factor of common sense. If it is ever able to find another of the opposite sex they may develop a breed of liberals that can learn new things or at least have feet too big to insert in their mouths."
DU is hopelessly insane.
I was up several hours past my bed time, watching that thread. I practically ran down stairs in the morning to see what happened.
Amen.
And do not get cocky, overconfident, or complacent.
