Black Republican leader Frances Rice runs against the grain of most Democrats when she calls them racist. She doesnt care. That is her belief and she isnt backing down. Her Martin Luther King Jr. was a Republican (Rice article on why MLK was a Republican) billboards angered many on both sides of the aisle. She is still waiting for the Democrats to prove her wrong on the MLK billboards without any challenge to the contrary yet.
She is one woman I respect because she admits the truth about her races racist history and its connection to the Democrat Party without regret.

Jackie Robbinson was also a Republican. As was Lionel Hampton who even served as a delegate in 1992.
This lady has guts. And I admit, I never knew that Martin Luther King was a registered Republican.
“The leader of the Sarasota-based National Black Republican Association...”
..sigh...
I agree with this woman, but “black Americans” need to start thinking of themselves as Americans, instead of the mindset that embraces such things as “the special needs of black Americans”.
I am not sure whether there is proof on MLK Jr. being registered either Republican or Democrat, however his father MLK Sr., who was a civil rights activist was a Republican. The vast majority of politically active Blacks until the 1960’s were Republicans. No surprise, as the GOP was the party of equal rights, while the ‘rats were the party of the KKK.
More like until the 1930s. The last time a black majority district sent a Republican to Congress was in 1932. In 1934, the voters replaced him with a black Democrat and no Republican has been elected to Congress since in a black majority district. FDR converted most blacks to the Democratic Party very early in his administration.
Exactly how much has the “Party of Slavery” paid in reparations so far?
Republicans did their reparations during the War Between the States.
MLK was a flaming leftist, although I admire many of his achievements (March on Washington in particular). I know he was registered as a Republican, however.
There are lots and lots of great Black Americans. I hope we hear more and more from them.
Leftists don't give a rip about "character," Fonzi.
Rev. Perryman shares the same views as Frances Rice.

Court Decides Reparations Suit Against Democrats By Frances Rice
The U.S. District Court in Seattle, Washington issued a historic ruling in the landmark Reparations lawsuit (Case No. CV04-2442) filed against the Democratic Party by Rev. Wayne Perryman, author of the book entitled Unfounded Loyalty: An In-depth look into the Love Affair Between Blacks and Democrats.
Reacting to the court’s decision, Rev. Perryman, who will be the keynote speaker at the June 11, 2005 Empowerment Award Luncheon sponsored by the SaraMana Black Republican Club at the Sarasota Hyatt at 11:30 AM, thanked his supporters and said: “This case will become a permanent part of the United States Federal Judicial archives for years to come.”
Rev. Perryman said that he filed the 180-page Reparations lawsuit for two primary reasons: (1) To obtain redress for the crimes committed against African Americans by the Democratic Party and (2) To officially file a formal case against the Democratic Party as a permanent historic record.
Many blacks voted for Eisenhower but there was a switch to the Democratic party in the sixties.
Many conservative posters here pretend not to know why this switch occured - they can continue to bury their heads in the sand or face reality.
The Rats were giving out the freebies?
please, explain your comment
It's because that vicious Republican Albert Gore Sr. voted against The Civil Rights Act of 1964. (;>)
sarcasm aside :), it’s stunning how history has been “rewritten”, my kids didn’t hear about those wascally wepublicans supporting the civil rights act and electing the first “black” senator, it’s all been erased in public school
I think I have the gene. That's why I've always been so popular.
I am talking about the commonly held view in conservative circles is that the African-American switch to the Democratic party has nothing to do with the fact that conservatives were at best MIA or at worst opposed to the Civil Rights movement.
William Buckley (the conservative scholar) was opposed to civil rights legislation (he later regreted it), while Goldwater voted against Civil Rights legislation.
Many African-Americans are natural conservatives, but they still need to overcome a suspicion of the conservative movement.
It is insulting to suggest that African-Americans vote Democrat simply because they have been bought over.
Why did Blacks stop voting Republican?
Remember Blacks voted massively for Eisenhower - why the sudden change?
The Republican party needs to figure out the answer to this question and act on it - or risk being a permanent minority party.
The demographic profile of America is changing.
In 1960 Nixon only got a third of the black vote, despite the fact that he was part of the administration that put Earl Warren on the Supreme Court and sent troops into Little Rock. Two-thirds of blacks voted for the Dems, even though LBJ (who had a long history of opposing civil rights legislation) was on the ticket.
The vast majority of Republicans voted for every piece of civil rights legislation, and it didn’t do one bit of good once the Dems offered up hundreds of billions of dollars in social programs.
