Phil Gramm Has You Dead to Rights, So Quit Whining and Get to Work

It says a lot about the current state of affairs in America – and nothing good – that people get offended and outraged when someone tries to tell us things are really not so bad.

Former U.S. Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas has apparently lived too long and done too much to care. We need more people like this. It would be fantastic if the presidential candidate Gramm is advising – John McCain – would think and talk like this. (He isn’t. Oh well.)

In an interview last week with the Washington Times, Gramm said what needs to be said about the economy, and perhaps more importantly, about the state of mind of the American people. Labeling the supposedly horrid economy a “mental recession,” Gramm placed responsibility squarely on the backs of those whose mush-filled minds simply believe whatever they hear about the economy. As the Times reports:

We have rotten leadership. It’s too bad people didn’t see the light and speak up earlier.

Sadly for the majority of our beloved fellow ‘mericans, they can't see the sh*t headed at the fan, only catch it after it has blown back all over them and then ask what happened and who can fix it.

Like 1980 all over again, though sadly we have not fallen far enough yet....

Should the businesses not whine next Christmas when we don’t have disposable income to spend on their imported junk because energy prices are outrageous?

If/when the gas prices come down, I think most people will be amazed by how quickly the economy “recovered.” It’s easy to believe things are bad, really bad, when you’re faced with $80-100+ every time you fill up your tank.

With all the BS in the media, it’s very hard to tell what exactly IS the truth re: our economy. Our electrical contracting business had a record month in June, but we know that other sub-contractors and generals are facing tough times. In my own direct-sales business, women are having no problem spending $60 in order to get a FREE $15 gift with purchase, yet the overall sales in my organization are down. I think it’s a mixed bag, definitely not an official recession and there IS a lot of “mental” recession due to the non-stop slamming of our economy and country, overall, by the MSM.

You said it. The gas prices are already cutting into people’s ‘extra’ money for entertainment. The vacation places are going to be first to get hit. These “it ain’t so bad” folks are going to be eating their words if it spirals out of control. People are feeling the pinch at the pump, whether they like it or not. Winter could cripple people.

Ok, so at what point is “it’s not so bad” going to be? So we aren’t in line for soup, but come on, votes aren’t going to be won this way. I’m not saying we should buy the votes, but people don’t want to hear this mess either.

Millions? Try billions. And we’re all going to be eating dirt. And it will be Phil Gramm’s fault, because he has a Ph.D in economics and he failed to point out something everyone already knows to you.

I was always happy the British put the tommy to good use. I understand Winston like to fire it himself.

Ah the days when the British weren't such wussies.

Though their young prince acquitted himself quite well in Afghanistan before the press screwed that up...

I’ve just been told my electric bill will go up 26 percent at one time and my home heating bill will be up more than 50 percent this coming winter. But don’t worry, Phil, I won’t whine. I’ll be too busy shivering and tripping over things in the dark.

I agree. Some industries are getting hit harder than others. And some are not at the point of feeling the pain yet. But when you are doubling your gas prices, almost tripling, you are going to effect people’s over all budget at some point.

You can bet Phil won’t be shivering and/or tripping over things in the dark. Those nice pensions come in handy when preaching to others on how to act.

People need to live smart. Combine trips out for a gallon of milk with a trip to the dentist, or do without milk if that’s what it takes. We need to stop whining about not being able to afford lattes anymore. Life is still much better than years ago. My friends don’t let their house get above 55 in the winter, and it has only cost them one oil tank for the whole season for years, and they are still happily married. We’ve become a spoiled society, and tough times might not be a bad thing to bring us back to reality.
