The latest stupid, petty controversy in the presidential primaries/election is people being "outraged"--and the Republicans demanding an explanation--for Senator Obama confusing Auschwitz with Buchenwald in a recent speech. According to the Associated Press' Obama mistaken on name of Nazi death camp (5/28/08):
"The Barack Obama campaign said Tuesday the candidate mistakenly referred to the wrong Nazi death camp when relating the story of a great uncle who helped liberate the camps in World War II.
"The Democratic presidential candidate said the story is accurate except that the camp was Buchenwald, not Auschwitz...
"Obama's mistaken mention of the camp on Monday quickly generated Internet chatter, ranging from puzzlement to outrage. The Republican Party demanded an explanation.
"'It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there's no way Obama's statement yesterday can be true,' said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee."
So Obama--who must be so tired from the endless, endless, endless campaigning that he can probably barely see straight--confused the names of two concentration camps. Big deal--most Americans couldn't even name two concentration camps.
But the real significance of the gaffe is this--"'It was Soviet troops that liberated Auschwitz, so unless his uncle was serving in the Red Army, there's no way Obama's statement yesterday can be true,' said Alex Conant, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee."
An ironic comment, to say the least. American conservatives have spent the last 60 years pretending it was the US and Britain who defeated Nazi Germany, when the vast majority of Nazi Germany's casualties occurred on the eastern front, against the USSR. When celebrating the 40th anniversary of D-Day in 1984, then-president Ronald Reagan read General Eisenhower's announcement for the day and deliberately omitted Eisenhower's reference to America's Soviet allies.
The first president to properly acknowledge the Soviet role--the leading Soviet role--was Clinton, not because he was more honest but because the Cold War was over so we could stop the stupid charade. It was that generation of Russians--28 million of whom died in World War II, and millions of whom also died at the hands of their own dictatorship--who saved humanity.

IIRC, there was at one point a proposal to send Marines to Europe. General George C. Marshall hit the roof and said something to the effect that “there would never be any Marines serving in the European theater”.

Bull$hit. This from the same people who credit Gorbachev with ending the soviet union.
We entered the war 3 years later, that also meant fewer losses.
Perhaps I should tell this putz it isn’t all because Obamahammod “confused” concentration camps.
It’s because the Democrats have pounded every Republican president for “misspoke”, gaffes, whatever, and have labled them as stupid, etc.
Nice to see a Democrat take the stupidity crown with all of Obamahammod’s screw-ups.
There is always the possibility that the long, lost relative of Obamas really did liberate Auschwitz, as a member of the Red Army.
Maybe Communism is a family tradition.

Without Saints Julius and Ethyl Rosenberg, (Well, the left seems to think they were saints, martyred saints, no less!)
It would have taken the soviets longer and cost them much more.
The the Soviet Union would have bankrupted itself and collapsed earlier.
The really dangerous part of the cold war would have been shorter.
And less opposed American influence would have kept more people living under free and democratic rule.
Small wonder the left mourns them so...
Actually, sometimes it is. That's why rabbits are fear screamers. Where your attacker isn't a top predator there is real advantage to calling in a bigger predator. Sometimes you can creep away to nurse your wounds (and ultimately survive to pass on your screamer genes) while they are fighting over rights to your miserable carcass...

If the American electorate are dumb enough to not clue in on what’s going on, perhaps they deserve this loser in the White House.
Unfortunately we do not.
You aren’t supposed to have a say in the agenda. There is no debate of the issues. They’ve already decided on the positions we should all take.
You should just accept that President Chimpy McBushitler is dumb but you can’t hold that same yardstick to candidate Saint B.H.Obama. And don’t you dare suggest he looks like a chimp or used drugs or mangled a statement.

I used to be really uptight about the proper nomenclature of familial relationships until I started hanging around large families. Everyone is a “cousin”, regardless of their 1st/2nd/3rd removal and Uncles are brothers of mothers/fathers/grandmothers/grandfathers. In those circles the exact designation(1st, 2nd, 3rd) are frivolous.
I love to beat a political dog as much as anyone else but that’s all this purpose serves, there was no maliciousness on BHO’s part. It’s not like he brought up assassination.
I use this trait when predator hunting.........

It was obvious from his delivery that Daschle's intent was to portray pro-NMD folks as idiots. At the end, he made himself look like the half-wit.
