The epic struggle against Soviet Communism lasted over 40 years. Our victory when it came was sudden and unexpected. And, many of the most bitter struggles that marked its course were fought in shadows, the men and women who waged them un-named, hence forgotten. But, even the memory of many of the most public of its campaigns - including those in which thousands of American fighting men fought and died - have also largely faded from public consciousness as well.
The Korean War is primary amongst these almost forgotten theatres of conflict. I.e. particularly those which occurred during the early phases of the Cold War and in which the first rush of Soviet aggression was largely halted through the efforts of America and its allies - whose collective will had just begun to coalesce around the necessity for a protracted resistance against this newly recognized threat.

Thank you for your service and it’s part in keeping our country free.
And for making that point.
We take so much of this for granted.

Think of the resistance that would ensue - from teachers - at the very suggestion that students tour an AF base and learn - from them - something of their duties and history.
We need to take back the schools, if the traditions of service are to be maintained!
Best and G-d Bless!

Thank you for your comments,
Intel and SO personnel of all kinds were what I was thinking of in writing:
“And, many of the most bitter struggles that marked its course were fought in shadows, the men and women who waged them un-named, hence forgotten.”
They do need to be honoured, and ,their exploits remembered to the extent that it is safe and politic to do so.
Best and G-d Bless!
