McCain and Global Warming
The Virginian ^ | 5/14/2008 | Moneyrunner

Posted on 05/14/2008 5:29:58 AM PDT by moneyrunner

It is really amazing to watch. You can make money on this: whenever politicians or church leaders glom on to a concept, it’s over. John McCain has fastened on the global warming hoax like a remora. It’s not just bad for the economy, for freedom and for the environment, it’s also incredibly bad timing for “Maverick” John McCain.

Holman Jenkins points out in the Wall Street Journal:

And yet every journalistic tendril senses that the fuss over warming is about to cool. Global mean temperatures have been flat for a decade. The biofuel folly has chased away any easy belief that we can centrally plan our way out of reliance on fossil fuels. Voters seem more concerned with high gas prices. Even the town criers of global warming acknowledge that we will be stuck adapting to whatever climate comes along.

It’s even being acknowledged by the climate hysterics and the troglodytes in the MSM that global warming has been reversed by natural forces and that at least one of the “fixes” – ethanol – has been a human and ecological disaster.

To take the stand that McCain has taken just at this time shows a stupidity that is hard to fathom.

John ‘Stupid’ McCain, it’s his middle name.

I would be grateful for some global warming here in northern Virginia, where temps seem fairly cool for this time of the year.

I note, too, that proponents of global warming have begun calling it “global climate change”. Hmmm. Could Mr. Gore be incorrect?

It's not too surprising, actually. McCain is really not all that smart. I don't just mean in his poor political acumen, I mean in his raw intelligence. Romney, Thompson, and even Huckabee probably had all had him beat handily as far as horsepower under the skullcap is concerned. Because of this, he'll naturally be a follower on matter scientific, not a leader. He won't grasp the trends himself, but will instead rely upon staff to do it for him, making him much more susceptible to the influence of his advisers' own agendas or beliefs.

I had reconciled myself holding my nose and voting for McCain, if only because Hillary and Obama are so much worse. But this renewed global warming fanaticism on his part is about all I can stomach, and I'm very close to basically not voting for President in November, period. I'll vote GOP downticket, but McCain is very, very close to losing my vote (again). It won't hurt him much, I live in a pretty GOP safe state at the Presidential level (NC), but at least I'll have a cleaner conscience.

That was my thoughts exactly as he was in my home state of WA yesterday, part of his Save the Planet tour. This state is a solid blue state, and my vote is not going to effect things one iota.

That is why this is their last best hope to get America on the hook to world governance and taxes under the guise of global warming. Temperatures have been flat or declining for 10 years now and are gonna start cooling for the next 10 or so.

Juan Williams (whom I generally respect) said something laughable last night on Fox. Said McCain had been spending the last few weeks consolidating his base. I have never felt more alienated from the guy.

From a purely cynical and political POV, all that has to happen is a significant numbers of the plebs have to still believe in early November that "We HAVE to do SOMETHING about Global Warming.

But McLame seems to have an unerring instinct for doing the things most likely to make me abstain from the Presidential election.

Free Ramos and Compean. Give me back the exercise of free political speech. If I can't have those things, he can't have my money.

AMEN

I was going to grit my teeth vote absentee for McPain, but now I just don't see any reason to bother.

It will be a disaster no matter which of the 3 stooges win.

McCain and Global Warming

This is the only way McCain is capable to "distance" himself from GW Bush.

Two fools and sore losers.

When Juan Williams said McCain had been spending time “consolidating his base”, he wasn’t talking about conservatives;^)

I have never understood who he thinks his base is.

If he gets in, maybe we’ll see a “Global Warming Reform Law,” where it’s simply not permitted to rebut the “facts” of global warming. After all, that would be “hate speech” against the planet, and such incivility in discourse should NEVER be allowed (in McCain’s demented playbook, of course).

Or, if we’ll lucky, we’ll see Algore on the Supreme Court. ):-<

Listening to that speech made me just cringe. Ridiculous!Good thing we didn't fly off the deep end like this in the 70’s when the alarmists were warning us about global cooling.
Oh my. It is nearly impossible for me to support mccain.

McCain doesn't think about a base in conventional political terms. He is actually a terrible politician. He is the candidate because it was his turn. I'm sure he was promised it when he dropped out gracefully in 2000.
