To take the stand that McCain has taken just at this time shows a stupidity that is hard to fathom. It's not too surprising, actually. McCain is really not all that smart. I don't just mean in his poor political acumen, I mean in his raw intelligence. Romney, Thompson, and even Huckabee probably had all had him beat handily as far as horsepower under the skullcap is concerned. Because of this, he'll naturally be a follower on matter scientific, not a leader. He won't grasp the trends himself, but will instead rely upon staff to do it for him, making him much more susceptible to the influence of his advisers' own agendas or beliefs.
I had reconciled myself holding my nose and voting for McCain, if only because Hillary and Obama are so much worse. But this renewed global warming fanaticism on his part is about all I can stomach, and I'm very close to basically not voting for President in November, period. I'll vote GOP downticket, but McCain is very, very close to losing my vote (again). It won't hurt him much, I live in a pretty GOP safe state at the Presidential level (NC), but at least I'll have a cleaner conscience.

That was my thoughts exactly as he was in my home state of WA yesterday, part of his Save the Planet tour. This state is a solid blue state, and my vote is not going to effect things one iota.

Wow, my exact sentiments.
Actually, I’m expecting him to come out with his ‘Universal Healthcare Plan’ next. That WILL ice it for me.

McCain is very, very close to losing my vote (again). It won't hurt him much, I live in a pretty GOP safe state at the Presidential level (NC), but at least I'll have a cleaner conscienceI'm in the opposite position: living in NJ, my vote can't possibly help him (when was the last time NJ went for a Republican in the presidential race, or was even close to getting NJ's electoral votes?), and I personally cannot bring myself to vote for him, so I won't.

This is my position. I can hold my nose but I can't get over the taste of vomit in the back of my mouth. Pair him up with Huckabee and I will definitely not be voting for PotUSA. I don't believe my state has supported a Dem presidential candidate in my lifetime. However, if there a enough people sharing my sentiments, this may be the year. Down ballot matters but I could care less about the top.
