Russian Government Condemns “Fitna” Film
AZCONSERVATIVE ^ | 13 April 2008 | John Semmens

The Ministry of Foreign Affair of Russia has joined the ranks of those condemning Geert Wilders’ film critique of Islamic violence. “It is unfair and slanderous,” said Deputy Minister, Vladimir Dzerzhinsky. “It’s like blaming the gulag on communism.”

Dzerzhinsky was pessimistic about the consequences that may follow from airing “Fitna.” “There was a time when something like this would have been dealt with quickly and sternly,” Dzerzhinsky opined. “Alas, there are no men of steel anymore. Hooligans like Wilders are free to criticize whomever they please without the government taking action to correct matters.”

In related news, Saudi Cleric Muhammad Al-Munajid warned that “wanton exercise of freedom of speech is too risky to be tolerated. The words of the infidels invade the thoughts of the faithful, corrupting them, and leading them to apostasy. There is no need for Muslims to think. This is the prerogative of religious scholars, not the ignorant masses. Their role is to believe and obey. That is their path to Paradise.”

Vladimir Dzerzhinsky

I wonder if this guy is a descendant of Iron Felix? If so, his comment makes sense.

The old “I will defend to your death the right for you to say what I want you to say” ploy seems to have more believers than ever before.

Missed the satire tag but I would not be surprised if this was a prevailing attitude among certain segments of Russia.

That is just so messed up on so many levels.

Ah, satire. Got me!

Although, it’s something that wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a Saudi cleric were to say it.

Satire bits best when it’s closest to the truth.

Wouldn’t surprise me if one of the imams out there actually said something like this.

Most of the old Soviet states that are sticking with Russia in the SCO have populations that are mostly Islamic. Even Russia itself has a high percentage of Moslems in its population.

And BTW, the satire pretense doesn’t negate the truth that the Russian leadership is cozy with governments like that of Iran.

Vladimir Dzerzhinsky?

Any relationship to the namesake of the Dzerzhinsky Prision of the Soviet era?

Well, well - so today’s New Russian uses the words of the old Russians like Stalin. “Men of Steel”, “Hoologans”.

Next CommieMan will be screaming about “social parasites”. Hmmmn, given what he is, maybe not.
