The civil war now going on among the Democrats is also being reflected in DUmmieland itself. And it is BRUTAL. How brutal? How about to the extent that Head DUmmie Skinner has SICCED his lawyers on Ben Burch's DEMOCRAT WARRIOR forum because he thinks one of the posters there MIGHT have been a former DUmmie moderator telling forbidden secrets out of class. You can see a redacted letter sent out by Skinner's lawyers as well as a really poor explanation for the action by Skinner at this DUmmie THREAD titled, "Your donation dollars at work." So let us watch the DUmmies fire shots at each other in Bolshevik Red while the commentary of your humble war correspondent, wondering if this will all end up in court where Skinner might have to reveal more than he wants, is in the [brackets]:

Here's a more legible copy of the letter which was posted in another (now deleted) thread. It is from our lawyer, and it was sent to the administrator of a website which shall remain nameless.
As you know, we take your privacy seriously. For that reason, we ask that all of our moderators sign a moderator confidentiality agreement. (You can read a copy of the agreement here.) A little more than a week ago, an anonymous person claiming to be a former moderator from DU showed up on another website.

We checked all of the claims made by that person, and found that none of our former moderators matches with the history of service claimed by this individual. It is our belief that this person was not a DU moderator. Nonetheless, on the off-chance that he or she really did serve as a mod and did sign the moderator agreement, we feel that we have an obligation to our members to make sure that the moderator confidentiality agreement is enforced. Thus, the letter below.

As someone else said, they believe a defense fund is needed. There has been no legal action except the letter that was sent; it was not a proposed legal action at all.

regarding the "DEFENSE FUND" if skinner doesn't issue some sort of clarifying statement and make it clear he's the PLANTIFF, and not the defendent - could this be considered deceptive practices? I know he didn't ask for the money for a "DEFENSE" fund, but if he's aware that the money is being donated for this purpose and accepts it without making it clear he's initiating the actions... am I off base here?

What the poster was proposing was a fund to help pay DU's legal bills...in other words a fund to bully and harass small boards that can't afford their own legal representation.

Skinner is also playing up as "protecting privacy". Granted like the DW, these boards are owned and operated by private citizens. That being said, the boards are readily accessible to anyone with a computer, easily read by lurkers and members alike, anyone can "google" any screen name and come up with a multitude of matches. To my knowledge Former DU Mod did not diviluge any personal information regarding anyone. Putting up screen names is not what I would call personal information, as anyone can read the postings and see screen names as I mentioned above. Other than the DU admins names, which are also accessible through the DU, I saw no real life names, addresses, emails, social security or bank account numbers etc of DUers listed. so what "privacy" is he referring to?

And corporations have employees sign contracts all the time with different clauses that are not sustainable in court but the challenge is that each one must be knocked down in court and that takes time and money.

Here’s my papaya story. Mr. Mercat and I were on a Fitzgeraldo (really) boat on the Amazon in the early 70s travelling from Iquitos to Pucalpa Peru. After three or four days of dried salt fish, oversweetened oatmeal, rancid rice and plaintains were were desparate for fresh good. At a village we went from hut to hut asking whether they had food to buy. We found one ripe papaya. We asked no questions, paid what was probably a months wages and went back to the boat to eat it. Of my gosh!!!! Oh and did I mention the snipper fire. No seriously, the rest of it was true.
