Needs of the Many ^

After TMZ made a big stink over the military spending money on finding lost US military personnel, I figured I would ask all of you what you think.

That’s why I put up a poll on the top left sidebar of my blog for you to vote on. Just click the link, and vote.

(Excerpt) Read more at needsofthemany.blogono.com ...

I can think of many things that are a waste. Recovering hero’s is a responsibility to God and Country.

$52 million is what, $6.50 apeice, for all of us in America. No, that isn’t too much. Bring home all who can be brought home. We owe no less.

My uncle's remains were unearthed during an excavation of a French farmhouse in 1964. In July, 1944 while he and his division (83th Infantry Division) were engaging the enemy near St. Lo, he was declared missing-in-action. For twenty years his loving family and wife (with a newborn) knew nothing about his disappearance.

The uncertainly and anguish they went through for 20 years was beyond description. Always the uncertainty. Always wondering what had become or their son, brother, husband, uncle, etc.

I would venture a guess that the family would have thought it the duty of the country he gave his life for to attempt all efforts at recovering his remains. I for one would ask no less of this nation, at whatever the costs.

His remains now rest in Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.

That one story is enough to absolutely know it’s the right thing to do. It’s a debt of honor our country owes to those who fought, and their families.

$52 million is not much money in the overall Federal budget. We give billions and billions yearly in ‘foreign aid.’

Actually with a population of over 300 million it more like 17 cents for every individual in the nation.

"It’s a debt of honor our country owes to those who fought, and their families.

I consider it an obligation that must be fulfilled by this great nation, at all costs.

Those that fought and died for this country deserve nothing less. Their families should expect nothing less.

TMZ referred to WWII as “ancient history.” It certainly isn’t to any family member who still doesn’t know what happened to a loved one.

We owe an debt to those who gave their all. If we can bring them home, we should.

Assuming the Federal Government puts in a 2000 hour work year, based on the 2009 budget submitted by the President of $3.1 trillion, this is the amount of money spent tomorrow morning between 8:00 AM and 8:01:59 AM.

Or, how about this instead: nobody knows the exact dollar figure, but this is certainly less than 0.1%--yes, 1/1000th--of the amount of money the CIA will get next year for doing exactly ...nothing.

TMZ is an acronym for 30 mile zone, a term of art in the movie trade. TMZ.com is famous for bringing you pantyless crotch shots of the current blonde skank-of-the-week, and other gossip items without which our popular culture would collapse.

Useless celebrity gossip site. They complained after finding out that a former contestant on the reality show The Bachelor was a Navy diver who was helping to locate the remains of WWII flyers at a B-24 crash site in the Pacific.

Someone upthread sez this is a "debt of honor". I agree.

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help me, God.

Good enough for me.

I replied to the blog that those people would expect us to spend any amount of money to find them, but not for our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines. I also said “let them stuff it.”

If we do not make every attempt to recover our own, we belong in the ash heap of history.
