After years of delays, Ayn Rand's famous novel "Atlas Shrugged" is being made into a feature film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, according to media reports. Lionsgate Films bought the rights to the film version of the 1957 novel, considered in many polls to be one of the most influential books in history.

According to Hollywood trade paper Variety, the Mr. And Mrs. Smith co-stars, who are both fans of the Russian novelist, would play the lead roles of Dagny Taggart and John Gault. The story revolves around the economic collapse of the United States sometime in the future and espouses Rand's philosophy of objectivism.

I didn't see anything on my search about this, Glen Beck talked about it on his show last couple of weeks.

My guess is they will turn this into another "America is evil and Capitalism is the root of all evil" film, completely missing the point of the novel......

About time, and with two from hollyweird that I don’t mind. They normally keep a relatively low political profile (key word is normally), and even though I don’t agree with what they do say, at least they seem to try to live what they say. And she’s cute (and my wife likes him), so it seems likely that we’ll see it.

PLOT SPOILER.

The hot sex scene between the two should be something to behold, as neither of them will be acting at that point.

Cheers!

HAPPY EASTER!

(Guinness and chocolate are imminent.)

I think its completely safe to assume that it will be rewritten to demonize libertarian views.

It's such a crying shame, too. That book should be required reading in about 9th grade......

“Diana Shrugged”

I can’t think of two bigger idiots to star in this movie. Go read the book again and tell me that ain’t the truth!

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie,
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I simply can not see these people in these roles. I fear that Ayn Rand's message will be trashed.

But,,,on the bright side, it may prompt more people throughout the world to read the actual book.

Please note that my tagline reads,” Good ideas win! Why? Because people are not stupid.” Atlas Shrugged is a good idea.

It’s so hardcore libertarian I think they’ll do an OK job with it.

A-S and Fountainhead changed my life entirely at age 19.

Nah...

I don’t think they can get away with it as easy as they do with other movies. The rape of Capitalism is the Crux of the book... it’s unavoidable not to center around it.

Besides, I do know that Jolie is politically right/center, and I do not think she would do the movie if it was purposely warped to be against America...

JMHO...

My guess is that Rand's philosophy will not even be a focus of the movie.

I think much of the movie will focus on the torrid love scenes between Dagney and a married Hank Reardan - and in the end painting them as hypocrites.

It will be a turkey so nothing else matters. It is impossible to turn a book that long and complicated into a “good” movie. Everyone who likes the book will be disappointed and everyone else will be confused as he$$.

With all this talk of the government (taxpayer) buying mortgage backed securities, this might be a timely movie.
