McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

Exactly. And by then a lot of Huck voters will be so invested in their support of him they will follow. It’s really quite impressive. Send a guy out to run to the right and suck up the conservatives who hate you, then co-opt his supporters before the convention in order to get the broader base you need.

I expect no better from McCain....it’s Huckabee and those who have been deluded by them that are disappointing.

Maybe I should have said straight forward. Democrats are allowed to vote in our primary as well. Neither practice is honorable IMHO. Perhaps, for starters, the Democrat and the Republican Primary should be held at the same time. That way those who want to play games with the system would have to decide if the gamesmanship would be worth it.

rman, I assume you’ve got some proof of this so-called “deal”. UH-huh, I didn’t think so.

Look, Huckabee had absolutely nothing to do with this. It’s McCain pulling a fast one, plain and simple.

There is absolutely no way on God’s green earth that McCain gets only 1% unless he himself directed the result.

Stop trying to read your own prejudices into everything.

Yeah, I am a 11,000 post, sign up same time as you, “lib lover.”

Just because I ain’t buying what Romney is selling does not make me a “lib lover.”

The only difference I see between Romney and McCain is Romney is a liar, while McCain is insane.

Jim Gilcrest[sic] has stated that Huckabee is the ONLY candidate that actually deals with the problems at the border..and with employers who hire illegals.

Huckabee’s pointed out many times in debate that he supported building the fence..that he was solidly against amnesty and in no way supported sanctuary cities.

Oh, come on. Huckabee lied like a rug. Do your homework, and Google up Huckabee +LULAC + Little Rock and have a look at the press coverage of the speech Huckabee gave to the LULAC convention three years ago in Little Rock.

That speech utterly, utterly condemns Huckabee's most recent statements about immigration as lies. Real, palpable, measurable, testable lies.

Oh, and while you're there -- see if you can find the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, I think it was, that ran the photograph of Huckabee giving that speech.....and look who's standing on the podium behind him. Bill Clinton himself. Now ask yourself.......what was Bill Clinton doing there? And then take a good look at that photo. What do you see? Does it make you feel good? Or do you get all queasy inside, because you're suddenly recognizing for the first time that you're dealing with full-grown rogue politicians and that your handle on them is broken? And that Bill Clinton has got more games than anyone on this board can get his mind around?

Go look. Then come back and tell us what you think.

Waiting.

I would have to agree with you.

This whole race is disgusting.

Oh well, while all the sheeple run out and vote for their favorite liberal, I can stay home and wait for them all to realize how they were had.

I believe we had what 55 Republican US Senators at the time. If you are in disagreement with 53 of them on that vote then fine. You are in disagreement. BTW, my other US Senator, Kyl, in AZ is very conservative and he voted to confirm her.

Sitting out is a vote for Hillary or Obama..now go look in the mirror at a Democrat.

Hi, n006. Having fun helping Hillary?

A vote for McCain is a vote for Hillary. Or haven't you figured out yet that McCain is the Clintons' designated bagholder?

They pulled this same thing in 1995/6 with Bob Dole. The MSM MediaRats told us aaaaaaaalllllll about it, and how smort Clinton was. The week after the election.

They all knew, they didn't say anything -- they and their publications were pulling for Clinton in '96 all the way.

Having seen them do this before, how can you not realize and recognize when they're doing it again with McCain??!!!

Not sure why you sent that to me. Did you mistake me for a Huckabee supporter, or maybe mean to send it to another poster?

He apparently isn’t as smart as we’ve been led to believe.

He was smart enough to win the election! What you expect him to do about being stabbed in the back by "conservatives" is beyond me.

Your post makes no sense at all.

All’s fair in love, war, and politics.

Well, hells bells! Why bother to have rules, regulations or laws at all???

Strike em all from the books and let chaos and anarchy reign as we all go in our own directions!

But do the really think we the voters are crazy or ingnorant?

You bring up a great point.

Isn't it usually the Dems that try and figure out how to defeat the will of the voters?

It looks like they did again. The VOTERS intent was to elect romney (and BELIEVE ME, I'm no romney supporter), but only electoral trickery and backstabbing defeated the voters will and intent.

“What this really means is all the campaigns are thoroughly in the hands of professional strategists. no more grass roots.”

What this really means is that Huckabee and McCain flaunted democracy with underhanded tricks.

What happened in West Virginia was as far a cry from democracy as I’ve seen. A complete and total sham.

No, the voters got swindled. Not that you care.
