Sorry Hugh Hefner, but Women Shouldn't Create Fatherless Kids--and You Shouldn't Either

The issue of Single Motherhood by Choice has been getting a good deal of press lately, and is becoming increasingly acceptable in our society.

Now Hugh Hefner, 81, apparently is going to selfishly crank out an inevitably fatherless child with de facto Single Mother by Choice Holly Madison, 28, one of his Playmate girlfriends. According to the World Entertainment News Network:

"Playboy boss Hugh Hefner is apparently finally willing to grant girlfriend Holly Madison's wish of becoming a mother by agreeing to seek fertility treatment.

"Madison has regularly expressed her desire to become a mother on the hit reality TV show The Girls Next Door.

"And it seems the magazine mogul has agreed to become a father for fifth time.

"According to Hollywood gossip columnist Janet Charlton, the 81-year-old and Madison were spotted visiting a Beverly Hills gynecologist who specializes in vitro fertilization."

Despite media sympathies, I believe that what Hefner and Madison are doing is wrong.

I'm sure Hugh and Holly will assure us that all will be well because the child will be well-provided for financially. In reality, research shows that children in single mother families suffer from not having a father, regardless of income.

Research amply demonstrates that, even when adjusted for income, the rates of juvenile crime, school dropouts, youth drug abuse and teen pregnancy are tightly correlated with fatherlessness. Male parenting is different from female parenting, and is equally important for children.

To learn more about the importance of fathers, see my co-authored column Why Dads Matter (Houston Chronicle, 6/18/06).

Hugh Hefner is such a repulsive creep. The women are only after his money and mock him behind his back.

Hugh Hefner is a contemptable human being. He is partly responsible for the debasement of our culture.

Great...another bastard child as the progeny of Hefner and some dolt. Just what the world needed.

Over the weekend I came across a book by Hef on the early years, how he got started, etc.

The story is that his wife, to whom he was faithful before and after marriage, had an affair for several months before their marriage with the high school coach, up to a few weeks before the marriage itself.

After he found out about this, he basically decided to get revenge by going out and sleeping with the best looking women he could find. Which makes him out to be a small and petty man.

That’s interesting. He’s always had that kind of small-minded, emotionally stunted, kind of “dweeby” need to be one of the “cool guys”. That could explain it.
