ABC News chastised Republican presidential candidate, former senator Fred Thompson for what it called an unwarranted attempt to inject controversy into the recent Iowa debate.
The chastisement came in response to Thompsons refusal to raise his hand in affirmation of the moderators proposition that global warming is a man-made crisis.
Everyone knows global warming is a settled issue, ABC News spokesperson Shirley Snider. By implying that there may be divergent views, Thompson is undermining public willingness to submit to the regulations needed to forestall disaster.
The debate sponsored by The Des Moines Register and moderated by the papers editor, Carolyn Washburn, has been assessed to be the worst so far in a snap poll of 100 viewers.
Many found some of Ms. Washburns questions like Can you suggest a New Year's Resolution for one of your opponents?" and If you could be any animal, what would you be? to be inane and bizarre.
Washburn asserted that her questions were aimed at going beyond the hackneyed issues of national security, taxes and the economy and penetrating the deeper recesses of the human psyche. Policy is superficial. Voters need to know the soul of the person who is going to rule over them for the next four years.
In related news, Representative Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) was barred from The Des Moines Registers Democratic presidential debate on the grounds that his campaign isnt spending enough money in the state to be taken seriously. He hasnt rented office space. He doesnt have a paid staff in Iowa. And as far as I know, he hasnt bought any ads in our paper, Washburn explained. Why would voters want to hear what he has to say when he hasnt put his money where his mouth is?

That’s all I need to know about this article.
As I understand it, Fred’s position on man made global warming is that we need to consider both sides of the issue and that to act rashly and irresponsibly when scientists disagree is not prudent. It’s a perfectly reasonable position and, unlike the position of the opposition, is not exclusionary. It simply comes down on the side of truth and proof.
In light of this position, it's easy to see why participating in a yes or no raise of the hands could not adequately explain it and he was right to refuse.
I realize that this is satire but why does it sound so plausible?
Mr G and I totally believed it.
Sad state of the media, when we can be so totally fooled by something so ridiculous.
You are supposed to clearly list satire as such.
I have read serious and similarly critical articles accusing Fred of dodging the question. You are not dodging if you ask for time to answer and are refused the time.
Oh, boo-frickin-hoo, ABC.
No, everyone DOESN'T believe the one-sided arguments for that.
Shirley Snider is one of Lenin's "useful idiots"
You suckered me too! That’s twice in the last day.
duhhh ...missed the satire
