Condolences and prayers are due those church members in Colorado whose family members were killed or wounded by the deranged loser who attacked young people at two locations on Sunday.
Prayers of thanks are due for the heroic actions of the church member, a civilian, a volunteer with a gun who killed the 24-year old assassin before he could do more damage.

Female Church Member With Personal Pistol Kills Assassin, Saves Lives
Still for gun control, libs?
Silly question, I know...
I'm all for CCW, by the way, but let's keep the story straight.
Good for her. I’m sure the little bastard was expecting another Virginia Tech type environment.
Yes, she was a VOLUNTEER guard for the church. She was carrying her personal firearm under the authority of her Colorado CCW.
She fully fits the definition of civilian, just as much as I do when I carry in higher-profile church events.
it was her job to be armed
Basically, this private church asked this private citizen member to help out in this respect.
This is what CCW is all about.
THIS is the militia.
when the SHTF you are on your own
Exactly right!
I’ve updated the story to reflect the two armed male members who refused to shoot and refused to surrender their guns to other members willing to shoot.
It’s quite a tale of one woman’s courage!
You will lose this debate. A person who has a CCW volunteers to be part of the Church’s voluntary security.
You can not spin this as: she was a paid security guard just doing her job.
I am sure that on reflection, you will see that you are the person misstating the situation.
She was a volunteer.
This really would be a matter for the church board to define in terms of how they see the relationship in the history and traditions of that church.
They might consider her official. They might consider her unofficial.
It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the presence of her gun saved lives.
The church plan was not for all the people to hide under desks while a gunman went around picking people off one by one.
This is EXACTLY how an armed citizen can stop a shooting spree!
Preach it Brother!
Ain’t it grand to have founding documents that all by themselves preach a sermon?
;-)
Yes ... she worked for the church as a volunteer security person. It wasn't a case of average citizen saving the day because of CCW.
No. You’re wrong about that. Please don’t misrepresent what this lady does.
There's no debate. Ms. Assam was an official security person for the church. Any "spinning' is being done by those who are trying to make it something other than what it is.
I am sure that on reflection, you will see that you are the person misstating the situation.
Uh, no. Upon reflection and research, I find that the situation is exactly as I've stated it. From here:
Assam worked as a police officer in downtown Minneapolis during the 1990s and is licensed to carry a weapon. She attends one of the morning services and then volunteers as a guard during another service.[New Life Pastor] Boyd said Assam was the one who suggested the church beef up its security Sunday following the Arvada shooting, which it did. The pastor credited the security plan and the extra security for preventing further bloodshed.
Boyd said there are 15 to 20 security people at the church. All are volunteers but the only ones armed are those who are licensed to carry weapons.
The security guards are members of the church who are screened and not "mercenaries that we hire to walk around our campus to provide security," Boyd said.
She was quite official. Unpaid, yes. Licensed to carry, yes. But she is an official security guard.
There's no "might." She was considered official.
It doesnt really matter. What matters is that the presence of her gun saved lives.
It did, and Ms. Assam is a hero.
But Mr. Bob here is trying to make the situation out to be something other than what it is. Ms. Assam is an official member of the church's security staff, which includes an armed contingent selected and screened by the church itself. They could just as easily hired guards or off-duty cops.
I don't like fantasies that are built up in spite of the facts.
We will await a statement from the church board.
It will be a statement, in my opinion as a current pastor, that they’ll make in conjunction with advice from a lawyer.
I can think of reasons why a church might want not to be on record saying they had an in-house, armed security detail. I can think of reasons why a church might want to make it public knowledge that they have such an armed security group in their church.
