You will lose this debate. A person who has a CCW volunteers to be part of the Church’s voluntary security.

You can not spin this as: she was a paid security guard just doing her job.

I am sure that on reflection, you will see that you are the person misstating the situation.

This really would be a matter for the church board to define in terms of how they see the relationship in the history and traditions of that church.

They might consider her official. They might consider her unofficial.

It doesn’t really matter. What matters is that the presence of her gun saved lives.

The church plan was not for all the people to hide under desks while a gunman went around picking people off one by one.

There's no debate. Ms. Assam was an official security person for the church. Any "spinning' is being done by those who are trying to make it something other than what it is.

I am sure that on reflection, you will see that you are the person misstating the situation.

Uh, no. Upon reflection and research, I find that the situation is exactly as I've stated it. From here:

Assam worked as a police officer in downtown Minneapolis during the 1990s and is licensed to carry a weapon. She attends one of the morning services and then volunteers as a guard during another service.

[New Life Pastor] Boyd said Assam was the one who suggested the church beef up its security Sunday following the Arvada shooting, which it did. The pastor credited the security plan and the extra security for preventing further bloodshed.

Boyd said there are 15 to 20 security people at the church. All are volunteers but the only ones armed are those who are licensed to carry weapons.

The security guards are members of the church who are screened and not "mercenaries that we hire to walk around our campus to provide security," Boyd said.

She was quite official. Unpaid, yes. Licensed to carry, yes. But she is an official security guard.
