(Vanity) The Coulter Affair, or Deutsch! Deutsch!

Ann Coulter has again become the focus of controversy. This time she is in hot water for an interview with MSNBC’s Donny Deutsch, in which she claimed that Christians are perfected Jews, and that the country would be better if everyone converted to Christianity. The response was loud and immediate, and it came from all sides – even other conservative pundits such as Michael Savage (who is Jewish, but in his book The Savage Nation has defended the Catholic Church from charges of anti-Semitism) weighed in against her. I found a copy of the video and transcript here.

Now, I’m not going to consider Ann’s remarks in detail, either to praise or to disparage them. I’m more interested in the reactions of other people, and the context in which those reactions occur. What else has been going on of late? (By the way, Donny Deutsch compared Ann Coulter to the head of Iran, during their interview. I don’t recall any particularly loud protests from Mr. Deutsch while Mr. Ahmadinejad was actually in New York City, do you?)

Well, first there was the “General Betray Us” flap, together with the disgraceful comments from the United States Senate. Including, for example, Hillary Clinton’s remarks about “willing suspension of disbelief.” It also came out that the New York Times had charged less than the going rate for a full-page ad from MoveOn.Org. What to do, what to do?

Find a scapegoat, quick!

So we had the Senate raising the heat by attacking Rush Limbaugh, of all people, for attacking the troops – on the basis of two words (“phony soldiers”) completely taken out of context and misinterpreted. The attack on Rush Limbaugh intensified, with a letter sent to the CEO of Clear Channel Communications; Sean Hannity and Mark Levin, two other radio talk show hosts of a conservative bent, also began to come under fire. Rush, quoting from an excellent piece in The American Thinker, pointed out that his treatment was an example of the tactics recommended by Saul Alinsky – “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

What do we see happening, here? The Democratic Party, inspired by the far left, got caught in trying to end the Iraq War. Rather than telling the radicals to take a hike, the Democrats covered for them, by attacking some of the most patriotic and pro-war Americans. And by accusing them of the very things the leftists are guilty of! (Talk about “willing suspension of disbelief.) Seeing that this was working so well, the decision is made to extend the attacks to the “thought leaders” of the conservative movement – Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin, Sean Hannity – and now Ann Coulter.

I smell a Hildebeast. It wouldn’t surprise me to find that this is part of a run-up to the “coronation” of the Red Queen herself. The groundwork must be laid first, by sliming, silencing, or shaming anyone who would dare stand in her way, or even worse, serve as a rallying point for others who would wish to do so.

(*) Afterword: What is the most effective counter to the Alinskyite tactics of Hillary and her Flying Monkeys? Sean Hannity has had supporters directly call Henry Waxman’s office, asking point-blank whether he was (mis)using public staff and money for what is essentially a political vendetta. This works because it embodies Alinsky’s adjuration to "club the enemy to death with his own book of rules and regulations." Since one of the things liberals constantly proclaim as abhorrent is “censorship”, asking such a question of Waxman lays him open to the charge of censorship if he continues. But since the charge is not stated explicitly, it cannot lightly be brushed aside.
Ann Coulter has worked by refusing to be cowed – she comes right out and says things which are “PC forbidden”. While this would help defuse the Democrats’ attempts to cow opponents into silence, it would be more effective if there were more people behind her to echo her sentiments once she has broken the ice (kind of like the “didn’t you get the memo” echo-chamber behaviour of the MSM). Acting in a solo fashion, as Ann has, makes it much easier for her to be personalized and polarized.
Rush Limbaugh has perhaps the most effective technique – he has masterfully turned the tables on the democrats, by publicly auctioning off the “cease-and-desist” letter on E-bay, and donating the proceeds to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation (which funds collage scholarships for the orphans of marines and others killed in the line of duty). And to top this off, Rush then challenged each and every one of the Democratic signatories to the letter, pesonally, to make their own contribution to match the winning bid. Polarize that, Senator Clinton!

Ann Coulter, while being overtalked by this PMSNBC ‘host’, simply spoke the truth about Christianity—we are all made perfect in CHRIST, Jews, Gentiles, EVERYONE. Christianity is NOT a politically correct religion—in fact, it is quite intolerant and of course liberals who worship THE god OF ALL THINGS TOLERATED can’t stand that.

She did nothing wrong, except go on a show where she was RUSHed by the host, who kept putting words in her mouth that are now being attributed to Ann. I say, keep fighting the good fight, sister!! Spread the Word!

RUSHed: when words spoken by a conservative are twisted around and changed until the original truth/meaning is totally lost; when liberals take a word, phrase or sentence and totally distort it and the MSM jumps on the bandwagon and continues the insidious attack against the conservative/s.

Take it both ways (Alice in Wonderland, "Off with his head!" or the RED Queen).

Credit to my wife -- whom I CANNOT refer to as Mrs. [my screen name] for obvious reasons ;-)

Cheers!

Thats ludicrous. And totally opposite of everything I have ever heard about Christian doctrine. No one is made perfect. You are forgiven for not being perfect. For not being able to come anywhere close to the glory of G-d.

This is one time where we have to admit that Anne is just slightly wide of the mark. Oh, by about country mile.

I live in the Bible belt. I’ve never heard any such ridiculous twaddle. Maybe Anne’s been in the trenches too long. She’s usually One Hundred Percent on the mark. But not this time.

Why did you type G-d instead of God?

I’m just curious, it has been my impression that secularist like to type g-d for some kind of PC, “I don’t want to offend”, reasoning.

And totally opposite of everything I have ever heard about Christian doctrine. No one is made perfect.

The Epistle to the Hebrews comes to mind, Chapter 12 vs. 22-23:

"22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to myriads of angels, 23to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the Judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, "

As does Matthew 5:48:

"Mt 5:48 You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Full Disclosure: About your use of the word twaddle, the Sherlock Holmes stories had Dr. Watson constantly using the phrase, "What ineffable twaddle!"
It does have a nice ring, doesn't it?

Cheers!
